No bet. William & Mary has one road game against an FBS team, too few for our number to price this one.
Duke is a 43.5-point favourite over William & Mary on DraftKings, the same number it opened at. The method needs at least 4 games on each side before it will price a game, and William & Mary has 1. So the method makes no bet here.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Duke is 4-3 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 2.7 points a game across 7 games. William & Mary is 0-1 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 39.0 in its only game. The difference is 41.7 points, and half of it, rounded, would be 20.9. With 1 game on the road side, that figure is arithmetic, not a price.
What the method has to go on
William & Mary is not an FBS team. In 2025 and 2026 together it has played one FBS opponent: a 55-16 loss at Virginia on 13 September 2025. All four of its games this season came against teams outside the FBS.
So the method has almost nothing to go on for the visitor. One game proves little, and that 39-point loss at Virginia is the whole of the road side of our number.
The home side is firmer, and it is modest. Duke beat NC State 45-33, Wake Forest 49-32, Tulane 17-3 and Stanford 35-7 at home, and lost 45-19 to Illinois, 27-18 to Georgia Tech and 34-17 to Virginia. Its largest home win against an FBS team in that span was 28 points, over Stanford on 19 September. The spread asks for 44.
2026 so far
Duke is 3-0, all against FBS teams: 17-3 over Tulane, 31-27 at Illinois, and 35-7 over Stanford. It has allowed 12.3 points a game and is 1-0 in the ACC.
William & Mary is 2-2. It won 35-32 at Villanova and 22-15 over Delaware State, then lost 44-20 at Lehigh and 52-27 at home to Fordham on 19 September. None of those opponents is in the FBS, so none of them is in our number.
This is a non-conference game.
Last season
Duke went 9-5 in 2025 and won by 5.1 points a game, and finished with a 42-39 win over Arizona State on 31 December at a neutral site. William & Mary went 7-5 and won by 3.8 a game, against a schedule with one FBS team on it.
The two teams did not meet in 2025 or 2026.
The price
Duke is -43.5 and was -43.5 at the open, read 24 September 2026 at 04:29 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. Both sides of the spread are priced at -110.
No moneyline was posted for this game at that read. ESPN’s FPI gives Duke a 99.1% chance to win. One road game is not enough to argue with that number.
Pick: no bet
No bet on the spread. William & Mary has 1 road game against FBS teams in 2025 and 2026, and Duke has 7 home games against them. One sample holds fewer than 4 games, so the method has too little to price the game, whatever the line.
The arithmetic above gives Duke by 20.9, against a spread of 43.5. It is shown so the method can be checked. It is not a pick.
What changes it
More FBS games for William & Mary. Until its road sample reaches 4 games, the method makes no bet on William & Mary, at any line.
Availability is the other thing, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you look at this game.
The total
The total opened at 60.5 and is 61.5 now, over -120 and under +100, as read at DraftKings. That is a 1-point rise.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Duke’s games went over 61.5 in 7 of 16. William & Mary’s one FBS game went over, with 71 points. Duke’s three games this season produced 20, 58 and 42.
Pass on the total at 61.5. Seven of 16 is close to even, and one game says nothing about William & Mary.
