Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers Preview and Predictions 08-21-2019

The Texas Rangers seek just their second series win in almost two months when they cap a four-game set with the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. After opening the series with a win, the Rangers gained a split of a doubleheader Tuesday with a 3-2 win in 11 innings Tuesday night.

They haven't won a set since sweeping Detroit to open August and have not taken a series from a team other than the Tigers since June 21-23 against the Chicago White Sox. Willie Calhoun homered for Texas in the 5-1 loss to begin the twinbill and added a hit in the nightcap as the Rangers moved into a tie with the Angels for third place in the American League West. Mike Trout's two-run homer - his career-high 42nd - in the first game highlighted the victory in the afternoon for Los Angeles. The two-time MVP has 10 home runs versus Texas this year and will try to add to that total against All-Star Mike Minor, who takes the mound for the hosts Wednesday opposite rookie Patrick Sandoval.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Patrick Sandoval (0-1, 5.79 ERA) vs. Rangers LH Mike Minor (11-7, 2.94)

After a solid five innings of relief in his MLB debut, Sandoval has struggled in back-to-back starts. He gave up three runs and five hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The 22-year-old has 15 strikeouts with seven walks across 14 innings in the majors.

Minor saw his personal three-game winning streak come to an end Friday against Minnesota, giving up four runs - three earned - in seven innings. He recorded his first career shutout with a three-hitter against the Angels on April 16. Kole Calhoun is 4-for-9 with a home run and a double versus Minor.
