D-backs and Mets Clash Again in Arizona After Wild Weekend
The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets are set to face off once again, just a week after their last meeting. This time, the showdown shifts to Chase Field in Phoenix for a three-game set starting Monday night.
Diamondbacks Eye Momentum After Chaotic Win
Arizona is coming off a dramatic 11-9 extra-inning win in Philadelphia, salvaging the final game of a tough road trip that included back-to-back losses to the Phillies. The D-backs led 7-1 before nearly collapsing, only to erupt for three runs in the 10th inning and hold on.

“Clearly the offense picked up the pitching,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “They fight together. We have to keep doing that. We have to stay hungry and stay focused.”
With Corbin Burnes sidelined due to shoulder inflammation, right-hander Ryne Nelson (1-0, 5.82 ERA) will get the start in the opener. Nelson has struggled against the Mets in the past, holding a 7.64 ERA in four career appearances and surrendering six home runs, including three to Pete Alonso.
Arizona’s offense continues to churn out production. Geraldo Perdomo is red-hot, going 10-for-21 on the recent trip, while Corbin Carroll, despite a quiet showing against the Mets last week, bounced back with a two-hit, three-RBI day Sunday.

Mets Aim to Regroup Amid Injury Setbacks
The Mets enter the desert series after a tough Sunday doubleheader in which they left 22 runners on base and lost Jesse Winker to a right side injury. Winker won’t make the trip and could be bound for the IL, further testing the Mets’ lineup depth.
New York will start Griffin Canning (4-1, 2.61 ERA), who’s been solid this season and will face Arizona for the first time as a Met. Canning has yet to find success against the D-backs, carrying a 5.39 ERA in three career starts against them.

“His ability to control the strike zone is probably the best I’ve seen it,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said of Pete Alonso. “He’s taking his walks, and he’s getting his pitches to hit and he’s not missing them.”
Alonso is powering the Mets offense with 31 RBIs and eight homers, including one last week against Arizona. He and Carroll remain dark horse early-season MVP candidates as they prepare to go head-to-head again in a battle of NL firepower.
