Orioles, Rangers Accentuate the Positives After Recent Setbacks
Despite coming off different types of road trips, the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers both enter their three-game series opener Monday night in Baltimore with an eye on the positives.
For Baltimore, a 3-4 road swing through Tampa Bay and New York could’ve looked worse given the AL East competition.
“I was happy with the way we played on the road trip,” Orioles star Gunnar Henderson said. “That’s what we can take away from it.”

The Rangers, meanwhile, took two of three at Pittsburgh, ending Sunday with an 8-3 loss in which they were outhit 15-6.
“You take the series. You look at the positive,” Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re going to Baltimore and see if we can keep taking a series.”
Health & Depth Tested for Both Sides
Both teams face potential roster shuffles entering this series. The Orioles placed catcher Adley Rutschman (left oblique strain) on the IL on Sunday, and replacement Maverick Handley exited later that day following a collision with Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Handley may enter concussion protocol, meaning catcher Chadwick Tromp could be promoted from Triple-A Norfolk to join Gary Sanchez behind the plate.
“We haven’t seen a collision like that at the plate probably since all the new rules came in,” interim manager Tony Mansolino said. “We’ll have more information (Monday).”
In the infield, Jordan Westburg missed Sunday with a finger sprain.
For the Rangers, Wyatt Langford (back discomfort) returned Sunday but went 0-for-3. Bochy managed the bullpen with Baltimore in mind.
Pitching Matchup: Rogers vs. Corbin
Trevor Rogers (0-0, 3.12 ERA) will start for the Orioles. Monday will mark his third appearance this season after tossing 2 1/3 innings against the Rays on Wednesday. Rogers is 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA in two career starts against Texas.
Baltimore’s bullpen also looks different: former All-Star Yennier Cano was optioned to Norfolk on Sunday, with Yaramil Hiraldo recalled.
“This could be a really good opportunity for Yenni to go down and make the small adjustment to get back to being Yenni Cano,” Mansolino said.
Texas will counter with veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin (4-6, 3.91 ERA), who’s worked at least five innings in nine straight starts. Despite recent losses (1-3 in his last four), Corbin has kept opponents competitive and will aim to exploit an Orioles lineup that’s struggled at times against lefties.
Corbin is 1-5 lifetime with a 5.21 ERA in nine starts vs. Baltimore.
