St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Preview and Predictions 04-17-2019 in MLB

Christian Yelich hit six homers and drove in 15 runs in 16 games against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018 en route to winning National League Most Valuable Player honors. Yelich has needed less than three weeks to eclipse those numbers against St. Louis and will try to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a three-game sweep of the visiting Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon.

Yelich has gone deep in all six games of the series this season, following Monday's three-homer eruption with a three-run shot in Milwaukee's 8-4 rout. Yasmani Grandal is on a tear of his own, hitting safely in five straight contests and 11 of 12 after clubbing a two-run blast as the Brewers won for the fourth time in five games. Cardinals left fielder Marcell Ozuna has homered in three consecutive outings and has five blasts and 10 RBIs during a five-game hitting streak. Yadier Molina and Dexter Fowler collected two hits each to run their respective hitting streaks to six games for St. Louis, which has dropped nine of 10 to Milwaukee dating to last year.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (0-0, 5.28 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Corbin Burnes (0-1, 10.05)

Wacha had his best start in his season debut at Milwaukee on March 31, allowing one run and four hits while striking out seven over six innings of a no-decision. He has regressed in two subsequent starts, walking eight in 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball versus San Diego before he was shelled for three homers and seven runs over 3 2/3 innings by the Los Angeles Dodgers last time out. Yelich is 4-for-12 with a homer off Wacha, who is 5-0 with a 3.92 ERA in 12 appearances (11 starts) versus Milwaukee.

The long ball is killing Burnes, who will look to avoid becoming the first pitcher in major league history to surrender at least three home runs in four consecutive starts. The 24-year-old was matched up against Wacha last month and registered 12 strikeouts but was taken deep by Matt Carpenter, Paul Goldschmidt and Paul DeJong. Burnes gave up seven runs over five innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on April 6 and yielded five runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings last time out against the Dodgers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yelich is 11-for-21 with eight homers and 18 RBIs in the six games versus St. Louis.

2. Carpenter grounded into a double play for the first time since Sept. 8, 2017.

3. Brewers CF Lorenzo Cain has multiple hits in six of the past 11 games.
