White Sox and Guardians Gear Up for Doubleheader After Rainout
After ending the Toronto Blue Jays’ 10-game winning streak, the Chicago White Sox were eager to play spoilers again against the red-hot Cleveland Guardians. But Mother Nature had other plans—Thursday’s series opener was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Double Duty Friday: Cannon vs. Allen in Game One
Friday’s twin bill will now feature the originally scheduled pitchers for Game 1. Right-hander Jonathan Cannon (3-7, 4.50 ERA) will take the mound for the White Sox, fresh off snapping a six-start winless skid with a solid showing against Colorado. He’ll be searching for his first success against the Guardians, who have tagged him for a 7.59 ERA in two career starts.
Cleveland counters with lefty Logan Allen (5-7, 4.07 ERA), who’s looking to stop a personal three-game losing streak despite pitching well. He most recently held the Tigers to one run over six innings in a tough 1-0 loss.
“I felt good,” Allen said. “I was very efficient. I was happy to give the team a chance to win. I was happy to go deep into the game.”
Allen has a 2-2 record and 3.76 ERA in seven career starts versus Chicago.
White Sox Honor Bobby Jenks
Before the skies opened up Thursday, Chicago players took the field wearing special jerseys with “45” patches, honoring former closer Bobby Jenks, who passed away Friday following a battle with stomach cancer. Jenks was a cornerstone of the 2005 World Series-winning White Sox and will be commemorated with the patches for the rest of the season.
Spoilers Once More?
Chicago snapped their own three-game skid and halted Toronto’s momentum with a gritty 2-1 win on Wednesday. Edgar Quero led the charge, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run while guiding a strong pitching performance by Adrian Houser and the bullpen.
“Edgar continues to have quality at-bats, especially against left-handed pitching,” said manager Will Venable. “He’s always putting good swings on pitches and giving us a lot of substance in the middle of the lineup against lefties.”
Closer Jordan Leasure also came up big after blowing two of his last four save chances.
“Felt good. That’s a really, really good offensive team,” Leasure said. “Definitely went in with a lot of focus on executing my pitches, and I felt like I did that. Feels good to keep that win for us.”

Meanwhile, Cleveland enters the series fresh off a sweep of the AL West-leading Astros—ending their own 10-game losing streak. Jose Ramirez powered that resurgence, going 5-for-12 with 3 HRs and 6 RBIs, though he’ll skip the All-Star Game to recover from a sore ankle and prep for the second half of the season.
