Twins Ride Recent Success at Plate into Series Finale vs. Angels
The Minnesota Twins are looking to keep their hot streak alive as they aim for a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. While much of the city’s attention may be on the Timberwolves’ playoff game across the street, the Twins are doing their part to bring the winning energy to Target Field.
Twins Surge at the Plate
Minnesota (now winners of four of their last five) has been on a tear offensively after a sluggish start to the season. They’ve outscored opponents 26-13 over that stretch, powered by a lineup that’s finally clicking.
Stats, schedules, and more—it's all here for the top MLB baseball teams.
“It’s exciting to watch,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “Because every single guy is going up there and just winning their at-bats over and over again. It was really great to see.”
Minnesota took the first two games of the series with an 11-4 rout Friday and a 5-1 win Saturday, setting up their first sweep opportunity of the season.
Pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson reflected the clubhouse’s excitement about the city’s winning vibes.
“With all this playoff winning going around, we’ve got to win some, too,” Woods Richardson said. “Bring that energy back over to us, let it rub off on us a little bit.”

Pitching Matchup: Soriano vs. Ryan
The Angels will turn to Jose Soriano (2-3, 4.34 ERA) to stop the bleeding. Soriano is coming off a rough outing where he gave up five runs in just 3 1/3 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His history against Minnesota hasn’t been kind either — he holds a 13.50 ERA in two appearances against the Twins.
Minnesota counters with Joe Ryan (1-2, 4.00 ERA), who is looking to rebound after a tough start against the Braves last weekend. Despite that outing, Ryan has a solid track record against the Angels, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three career starts, striking out 24 over 16 innings.
Angels Searching for Stability
The Angels’ bullpen has been stretched thin, especially without key reliever Ben Joyce, who remains sidelined with a shoulder injury. General manager Perry Minasian acknowledged that while the back end of the bullpen, led by Kenley Jansen and Ryan Zeferjahn, has been strong, the early innings have been a problem.
“At the back end of games, we’ve been very competitive when we’ve been tied or had leads late,” Minasian said. “But I think the front end of the bullpen is where we haven’t done great and have spread some scores the wrong way.”
For the Angels to avoid a sweep, they’ll need Soriano to deliver a strong start and the bullpen to hold firm early.
