The Nationals Can Win If…

The Washington Nationals recently faced the Texas Rangers, losing 4-2. In that game, Alex Call was a standout performer, hitting a home run and driving in a run. Trevor Williams started on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing three runs.

The Nationals have some strong stats that could help them win. They are ranked 8th in doubles with 106 this season. Their ability to hit doubles can create scoring opportunities and put pressure on the opposing defense.

MacKenzie Gore will start for the Nationals in this game. Gore has an ERA of 2.87 and a WHIP of 1.14, showing he can keep runs off the board. His performance on the mound could be key to securing a win for the Nationals.

The Mets Can Win If…

The New York Mets are coming off a strong win against the Colorado Rockies, 13-5. Tylor Megill pitched five solid innings, giving up only two earned runs. Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso led the offense with two home runs each, contributing to a total of six homers for the team.

The Mets have been performing well this season, with a team ERA of 2.89, which is the best in the league. Their batting stats are also impressive, with an on-base percentage ranked 7th. Pete Alonso is a key player, leading the team with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Griffin Canning will be on the mound for the Mets. He has a solid record of 6-2 and an ERA of 2.90. With the Mets’ strong pitching and Alonso’s powerful hitting, they have a good chance to win against the Nationals.

The Lean

The Mets are favored with a moneyline of -166 against the Nationals at +139. The Mets have a strong pitching staff with an ERA of 2.89, ranked 1st in the league. The Nationals’ ERA is 5.02, ranked 26th. My model projects a score of Mets 5, Nationals 3. Based on this, I recommend picking the Mets to win straight up.

The current over/under line is set at 7.5. The Mets’ batting average is .244, and the Nationals’ is .242, both mid-tier in the league. With the Mets’ strong pitching and the projected score of Mets 5, Nationals 3, my model suggests a total of 8 runs. I recommend taking the over for this game.

Mets Aim to Extend June Surge as Nationals Come to Town

The New York Mets are riding a wave of momentum as they welcome the Washington Nationals to Citi Field for a three-game series starting Tuesday night.

While the Mets have left a sluggish May behind with an explosive start to June, the Nationals find themselves battling inconsistency once again.

Right-hander Griffin Canning (6-2, 2.90 ERA) will take the mound for New York, squaring off against Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore (3-5, 2.87 ERA).

“I thought everyone played great this week,” Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil said. “For the pitchers, this is a tough place to throw the ball and I feel they threw the ball pretty well. And the bats came alive.”

Mets’ Offense Finding Its Groove

New York closed out a successful 5-2 road trip with a dominant 13-5 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, sweeping the series in Denver. Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil each launched two homers, contributing to a 25-8 scoring advantage across the three games.

The Mets now own an NL-best 42-24 record and have been one of the hottest teams in June. They’ve scored 50 runs in just eight games this month, tied with the Boston Red Sox for the most in the majors, and have plated at least five runs in six of those contests.

This offensive turnaround comes after a tough May, where the Mets managed just 107 total runs — sixth fewest in the majors — and reached five or more runs in only 12 of 27 games.

Nationals Searching for Consistency

The Nationals, meanwhile, missed a golden opportunity to climb above .500 last week. They went 2-4 at home against the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs, falling to 30-35 on the season. Washington’s struggles at the plate have resurfaced in June, as they’ve scored just 11 runs this month — the fewest in the majors.

“We can switch the lineup, I can sit guys out, I might have to platoon guys,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. “But when it does get through, you see the results. It’s there. And they all can do it. I know it. I’ve seen it.”

The Nationals have not posted a winning record in June or later since July 1, 2021, when they stood at 40-39. Their offensive inconsistency remains a key hurdle.

Starters Coming Off Strong Outings

Both starters enter Tuesday’s matchup riding the momentum of excellent performances. Canning delivered six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Gore was equally sharp, tossing a season-high seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a 2-0 win over the Cubs.

Canning holds a 1-0 record with a 3.18 ERA in three career starts versus Washington. Gore, on the other hand, is 1-3 with a 4.55 ERA in six starts against the Mets.
