Padres’ Kyle Hart Set to Return to Rotation Against Marlins

After a rocky start to his 2025 season, San Diego Padres left-hander Kyle Hart is getting a fresh opportunity to make an impact, as he’s set to start Wednesday afternoon’s series finale against the struggling Miami Marlins at Petco Park.

Initially slotted as the Padres’ No. 5 starter, Hart posted a 6.00 ERA and a 2-2 record through five outings before being optioned to Triple-A El Paso. However, with Michael King hitting the injured list due to shoulder inflammation, Hart is back — and he’s looking to capitalize on this second chance, particularly in a park where he’s been at his best.

In two previous starts at Petco Park, Hart has gone 2-0 while allowing just two runs over 11 innings for a 1.64 ERA. This matchup marks his first career appearance against Miami.

“Absolute team win,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said following Tuesday’s comeback victory. “I stay even-keel because I know what this club is about.”

Alcantara’s Search for Stability

The Marlins will send right-hander Sandy Alcantara (2-7, 8.04 ERA) to the mound in an attempt to avoid a sweep. The former Cy Young winner has struggled mightily this season and is in the midst of a personal seven-game losing streak.

On Friday, Alcantara was tagged for six runs (five earned) in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels, marking yet another start in which he failed to finish six innings — something he’s only done once all year.

“I think I’m just getting stuck in the same inning,” Alcantara admitted. “Maybe try to be too perfect, but I don’t know. I’ve just got to keep working and keep believing in myself.”

Despite his recent struggles, Alcantara has been solid historically against the Padres, going 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA and just one home run allowed in five starts.

Padres Push for the Sweep

San Diego has already clinched the series, winning Monday in 11 innings and overcoming a 6-0 first-inning deficit Tuesday to win 8-6. Luis Arraez starred in the rally with a 3-for-5 night, including the tying and go-ahead RBIs. The Padres recorded 13 hits and scored in five different innings.

If you’re looking for strong MLB Predictions and Picks heading into Wednesday’s finale, keep an eye on Hart’s home numbers and Alcantara’s declining command.
