Witt Extends Hit Streak as Royals Complete Sweep of Rays
Bobby Witt Jr. continued his torrid pace at the plate and the Kansas City Royals rolled to an 8-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon, securing a dominant three-game sweep on the road.
Witt Powers Offense to Another Big Day
Witt slugged a two-run homer and drove in three total runs, extending his career-best hitting streak to 22 games — one of the longest active streaks in MLB. He reached base four times, including two walks and a hit-by-pitch, serving as the spark plug in Kansas City’s relentless offense.

“He’s been seeing the ball incredibly well and making pitchers pay,” a Royals broadcaster noted during the postgame show.
The Royals pounded out a season-high 15 hits, including three from Maikel Garcia, who also stole three bases and scored twice. Vinnie Pasquantino drove in two more with a 2-for-6 day, and Freddie Fermin added two hits and two runs scored.
Kansas City is now 11-1 when scoring at least four runs.
Lugo Cruises as Royals Continue to Roll
Seth Lugo (3-3) gave the Royals another steady start, allowing just two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out five without issuing a walk. Lugo’s effort marked his fifth quality start of the season and kept the Rays’ offense at bay.

Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz (3-1) had a rough outing, giving up seven runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. The Royals tagged Baz for three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to break the game open.
“We just kept pressing and made the most of our chances today,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said postgame.
Rays’ Home Woes Continue
Diaz homered and Jonathan Aranda added an RBI double for the Rays, who have now fallen to 9-13 at home. After being limited to just one run in the first two games of the series, Tampa Bay’s offense continued to sputter.
Chandler Simpson added a pair of infield singles and a run scored, but it wasn’t enough to stop a red-hot Royals squad that’s gaining steam in the AL Central.
