Corey Seager Set to Rejoin Rangers Lineup vs. Blue Jays
The Texas Rangers are expected to get a significant boost Wednesday night when they close out a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays in Arlington. Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that star shortstop Corey Seager is likely to be activated from the injured list and will serve as the designated hitter in the series finale.
Seager has missed 15 straight games and 25 total this season due to a nagging right hamstring injury. Since first injuring it on April 22, he has appeared in only five games, last playing on May 10 in Detroit.
Bochy emphasized Seager’s importance to the lineup, noting that “if we have one of the best hitters in the game in our lineup, it’s going to make everybody else better, too.”
Rangers Look to Build Momentum
Texas evened the series with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday, their second win in three games following a season-worst six-game losing streak. Josh Jung provided the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the eighth inning.
The Rangers are looking to carry that momentum into Wednesday’s contest behind right-hander Tyler Mahle, who has been one of the most consistent arms in the league this year. Mahle enters the game with a 5-2 record and an impressive 1.80 ERA. However, he’s coming off his first rocky start of the season, allowing three runs over five innings in a 4-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Despite that outing, Bochy praised Mahle’s ability to compete without his best command, stating that he still kept the team in the game.

Blue Jays Offense Still Searching for Answers
Toronto is mired in an offensive slump, scoring just four runs over their last five games. During this stretch, the Blue Jays have dropped four of five and are struggling to generate production at the plate.
Veteran left-hander Eric Lauer is the expected starter for Toronto, although the club hasn’t officially named him. Lauer was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on April 30 and has made two starts after three initial relief appearances. His most recent outing came against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 3-1 loss.
Lauer acknowledged the challenge of shifting between bullpen and starter roles, citing the difficulty in establishing a consistent routine. He has one career appearance against Texas, back in 2018 with the Padres, when he posted a solid five-inning start with two earned runs.
Pitching Matchup: Mahle vs. Lauer
This matchup features two very different pitching stories. Mahle has been one of the Rangers’ most reliable arms all season and will be looking to rebound from a rare off-day. He’s faced Toronto just once before, giving up four runs over six innings while with the Twins in 2022.
Lauer, on the other hand, is still finding his footing in the rotation. He holds a 3.31 ERA on the year, but inconsistency and role fluctuation remain challenges.

Betting Implications and Expert Picks
Seager’s return could tilt the odds further in Texas’ favor, particularly if he finds his rhythm quickly. With Mahle’s track record and Toronto’s ongoing struggles at the plate, the Rangers may hold a clear edge heading into the finale.
