Providence Tries to End on High Note in Home Finale vs. DePaul
Providence looks to close out its home schedule on a positive note when DePaul visits Rhode Island’s capital on Wednesday night.
Friars Seeking a Strong Finish
The Friars (12-17, 6-12 Big East) have struggled recently, losing three straight and seven of their last eight. Their most recent defeat came in a 75-63 setback against UConn on Saturday. Due to injuries and illness, Providence has used 12 different starting lineups this season, making consistency a challenge.

“Our margin is just very small. Very, very small. Possibly nonexistent,” head coach Kim English said. “We have to be really, really good consistently.”
Jayden Pierre, the team’s top active scorer at 12.8 points per game, managed only 10 points against the Huskies. Despite the loss, Providence remained within striking distance, trailing by just seven with 8:40 left before UConn pulled away.
At home, the Friars have struggled, going 4-5 in Big East play after finishing 6-4 last season.
“When you’re not getting stops and you’re not making shots, it’s hard,” English added. “Our fans try. They really do, and God bless them for not leaving us and sticking with us.”
DePaul Aiming to Snap Skid
DePaul (11-18, 2-16) enters the contest on a six-game losing streak, having last played a week ago in a 75-65 loss to Creighton.
The Blue Demons have seen some recent positives, turning the ball over seven or fewer times in back-to-back games for the first time since 1996.
“I was really pleased with our effort and with our response when they made a run,” DePaul coach Chris Holtmann said. “Our effort for the entirety of the game was really good. That’s what you’re focused on this time of year.”
Isaiah Rivera led DePaul with 18 points and eight rebounds against Creighton, while CJ Gunn has scored in double figures in 13 of his last 14 games.
When these teams met earlier this season on Dec. 10, Providence secured a 70-63 overtime victory in Chicago. Bensley Joseph starred for the Friars with 20 points and seven assists, while Bryce Hopkins added 19 points and 10 rebounds. David Skogman led DePaul with 22 points in that game, but he has since been ruled out for the season with a foot injury. NJ Benson (hand) will also be sidelined for Wednesday’s matchup.
