Storm vs Aces Prediction: Will Brittney Sykes Spark a Road Upset in Vegas?
The Seattle Storm travel to Michelob ULTRA Arena to take on the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night in a pivotal battle for playoff positioning. Tip-off is set for 10:00 PM ET, with both teams tied at 16-14 and eyeing a surge into the WNBA’s top tier.
Seattle is banking on newly acquired All-Star Brittney Sykes to provide a late-season boost. The ninth-year pro joins a Storm squad that’s dropped three straight — but each by narrow margins. Las Vegas, meanwhile, is 7-3 over its last 10 games and enters this matchup off a gritty 78-72 win over Golden State.
The Aces are listed as -4.5 favorites, with a moneyline around -180. The Storm are priced at +150, and the total is set at 168.0 points.
Storm Can Win If…
Brittney Sykes makes an immediate impact and Seattle finally closes out a tight game. All three of the Storm’s recent losses were decided by four points or less, including Tuesday’s 91-87 heartbreaker to Minnesota.
Nneka Ogwumike poured in 23 points, while Erica Wheeler added 19, but the Storm surrendered 28 points in the fourth quarter and couldn’t match the Lynx’s late surge.
Coach Noelle Quinn sees promise in the effort:
“I thought we executed really well in finding the looks that we wanted,” she said. “We want to not have just moral victories.”
Sykes, who averages 15.4 points and 4.4 assists per game, also brings elite perimeter defense — a welcome addition to a Seattle squad that’s allowed 88+ points in three straight games.
Aces Can Win If…
A’ja Wilson continues to dominate and the defense keeps clicking. Wilson ranks second in the league in both scoring (21.5 PPG) and rebounding (9.1 RPG), and she was nearly flawless in Wednesday’s 78-72 win — scoring 27 points on 11-for-11 from the foul line.
Las Vegas limited Golden State to just 4-of-22 shooting from 3-point range, showcasing the defensive attention to detail that coach Becky Hammon preaches.
“More attention to detail… staying on top of those little things that help you win,” Hammon said postgame.
Jackie Young and Jewell Loyd chipped in 14 points apiece, and the Aces’ depth continues to keep them in games even when shooting is inconsistent.
The challenge will be flipping the season series. Seattle leads 2-1, including a dominant 98-78 win back in June.
