Dream vs Sky Prediction: Will Atlanta Complete the Season Sweep?

The Atlanta Dream aim for their fourth straight win and a season sweep of the Chicago Sky as the teams clash Thursday night at Wintrust Arena. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM ET in the Windy City.

Atlanta (18-11) continues to rise in the WNBA standings, tied for third despite missing key stars Rhyne Howard and Brittney Griner. Meanwhile, Chicago (8-21) finally snapped an eight-game skid with a win over Washington on Tuesday but faces a tall task against a Dream squad that’s dominated them all season.

The Dream are favored at -9.5 on the spread, with a moneyline near -430, while the Sky come in at +340. The over/under is listed at 165.5 points.

Dream Can Win If…

They keep doing what’s worked: balanced scoring and elite defense. Atlanta has won three straight and five of its last six, with four of those wins coming by double digits.

On Sunday, the Dream trailed by 11 early but recovered quickly, shooting 56.3% from the field in a 99-83 rout of Washington. Brionna Jones scored 23 points, Allisha Gray added 22, and Naz Hillmon dominated the boards with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

“Our players have been pretty locked into what we want to accomplish,” coach Karl Smesko said. “They’ve been playing great.”

Atlanta has also thrived on the road lately, winning three straight away games. Their last trip to Chicago ended in an 86-49 demolition on July 16 — their largest margin of victory this season — as they held the Sky to just 25.4% shooting.

Even without Howard and Griner, Atlanta’s defensive intensity and rebounding edge make them a clear threat to blow this one open again.

Sky Can Win If…

They build off Tuesday’s 78-64 win and get consistent interior play from Kamilla Cardoso.

Cardoso posted her seventh straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. During that streak, she’s averaged 14 points and 11.3 boards — easily Chicago’s most reliable weapon during a rough stretch.

Ariel Atkins returned from injury to score 15 points in just 24 minutes, bringing a spark to an offense that had gone flat in recent weeks. However, the status of Angel Reese (injury) remains uncertain, and her absence continues to limit Chicago’s upside.

“We just have to keep fighting… There’s no point in fighting the whole season to give up now,” Atkins told WCIU Chicago after the win.

If Chicago can replicate the efficient shooting (54%) from Tuesday and get solid minutes from their bench, they may hang around longer — but they’ll need a near-perfect performance to upset Atlanta.

The Lean

Atlanta has covered easily in all three meetings with Chicago this season, and nothing suggests a change is coming. Even without Howard and Griner, the Dream have more depth, better defense, and stronger rebounding.

My model projects a final score of:

Prediction: Dream 88, Sky 72
Best Bet: Atlanta -9.5
