Kansas State vs. Oklahoma Preview (CFB Week 4)

The Kansas State Wildcats aren’t going to outscore Oklahoma on the road and the defense has to set the tone. Kansas State is holding opponents to just 9.7 points per game this season and that unit needs to make a stand in this one.

Quarterback Adrian Martinez has thrown for 304 yards and one touchdown to begin the year for Kansas State. The Wildcats want to do most of their damage on offense on the ground, but they have to hit on some deep balls at some point.

Lincoln Riley is no longer the coach at Oklahoma, but it appears that the team is keeping the same offensive philosophy. Oklahoma comes into week 4 scoring 42 points per game and they have been doing it with a balanced attack.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel leads the way with 759 passing yards and seven touchdowns. He is known for making big plays. Gabriel continues to keep the offense on the field and it allows the defense to get some rest.

Oklahoma is holding opponents to just 10 points per game and that’s impressive regardless of the opponent.

Kansas State vs. Oklahoma Picks

Kansas State has proven to be a problem for Oklahoma in recent years, but things just feel a bit different in 2022. The Oklahoma team has looked extremely sharp through three games and it’s going to be hard for Kansas State to keep up.

Both teams have been playing great defense to begin the year, but it’s going to be the defense of Oklahoma that actually makes the biggest plays in this one. Expect a nice battle for a half, but Oklahoma is going to win this game by at least two touchdowns to cover the spread.

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Skylar Thompson threw for 334 yards and a touchdown and ran for three more scores as Kansas State upset No. 3 Oklahoma 38-35 in Saturday's Big 12 clash in Norman, Okla.

It was the second consecutive season an unranked Wildcats team beat the top-five Sooners.

Last year, Kansas State built a big lead and then had to hold on throughout a furious fourth-quarter Oklahoma comeback.

This time, it was the Wildcats (1-1, 1-0 Big 12) who rallied after trailing 35-14 late in the third quarter.

Kansas State started hitting on big plays in the passing game in the second half -- completions of 77 and 78 yards on consecutive drives to set up third-quarter touchdowns -- and came up with big plays on defense and special teams to complete the comeback against the Sooners (1-1, 0-1).

A fumble by OU's Seth McGowan set up a 4-yard Thompson touchdown run that pulled the Wildcats to within 35-28 with 12:28 left in the fourth quarter.

Nick Allen's blocked punt on the Sooners' next possession set up the game-tying score, as Deuce Vaughn scored on a 38-yard run with 8:17 remaining.

After another punt by Oklahoma, the Wildcats took the lead on Blake Lynch's 50-yard field goal with 4:32 left.

Sooners freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler was 30 of 41 for 387 yards and four touchdowns, but he also had three interceptions, including one in the final minute to seal the game.

After scoring touchdowns on five of their first eight drives, the Sooners went five consecutive drives without a score to end the game.

Vaughn had four catches for 129 yards and eight carries for 45 yards and a score. Vaughn had a 77-yard catch that started the momentum shifting Kansas State's way in the third quarter.

Drake Stoops led the Sooners with three catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Marvin Mims added two TD grabs for Oklahoma.

Thompson turned in a career day after not practicing due to injury the week after the Wildcats opened the season with a home loss to Arkansas State.

Thompson has seven rushing touchdowns against the Sooners in the last two seasons.
