Boston College vs Michigan State Picks and Predictions — September 6, 2025
The Michigan State Spartans haven’t forgotten how last year’s game against the Boston College Eagles ended. In the final 88 seconds, Boston College sealed the victory with a long touchdown pass, leaving the Spartans stewing over turnovers and missed opportunities all offseason.
Now, with Saturday night’s rematch in East Lansing, Michigan State seeks redemption and a 2-0 start.

Michigan State Can Win If…
The Spartans’ defense flexed in their opener, holding Western Michigan without a touchdown and even producing a second-half safety in the 23-6 win. Offensively, Aidan Chiles was efficient (17-for-23, 155 yards, 1 TD), but Michigan State went cold in the second half after building a comfortable lead.
Head coach Jonathan Smith stressed the importance of finishing games:
“These games are won in the fourth quarter. We could have got a stop last year, didn’t do it. Had the ball at the end of the game, couldn’t finish it.”
If Chiles can sustain drives late and the defense maintains its physicality, Michigan State can flip last year’s script.
Boston College Can Win If…
Quarterback Dylan Lonergan looked every bit the Alabama transfer in a 66-10 rout of Fordham, throwing for 268 yards and four touchdowns on 26-of-34 passing. The Eagles’ passing attack is clearly their strength, but the run game lagged behind with just 97 rushing yards.
Head coach Bill O’Brien knows balance is key against the Spartans:
“We have to run the ball better. We have to start the game better on defense. We gave up too many plays where we missed tackles or weren’t aligned right.”
If Lonergan continues to distribute effectively and the defense contains Chiles’ mobility, Boston College has a real shot at another road win.

The Lean
Model Projection: Michigan State 28, Boston College 24
Pick: Michigan State Moneyline
Total Lean: Under 55
This feels like a grinder. Michigan State’s defense should keep the game tight, while Chiles’ efficiency will be key late. Boston College’s offense is dangerous, but if they remain one-dimensional, the Spartans have the edge at home. For more picks and previews, head to our NCAAF Betting Predictions hub.
