The Nebraska Cornhuskers will make the trip to Norman to take on the #3 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday. This reinstallment of the legendary rivalry is the first since 2010, when the Sooners won 21-10.

Nebraska is one of the few teams in America that has already played three games, winning two. Oklahoma, meanwhile, is 2-0 and the third-ranked team in America.

In heated rivalry matchups like this, however, the past does not usually matter. This game will be played at a frantic pace, and both teams will do everything they can to come out on top.

The game will kick off inside Memorial Stadium at noon Eastern this Saturday.

Nebraska vs. Oklahoma Preview, Stats and Trends

Nebraska had a horrible opening-week loss to Illinois but has bounced back, beating Fordham and Buffalo. They are +62 in scoring differential and have dominated in both of their wins, averaging 40 points on offense.

Adrian Martinez has thrown for 728 of the team’s 832 yards and has four touchdowns to zero interceptions. He has also run for a team-high 256 yards, while running back Markese Stepp is second with 128. Samori Toure has already exceeded 300 receiving yards and is on a torrid pace for the Cornhuskers.

The defense has played well, forcing five turnovers and four sacks through three games. Safety Deontai Williams is third in tackles (14) and has the most INTs (two) and is the player to watch.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma has scored 116 points in just two games this season. They got a scare from Tulane in their return to action, winning 40-35, but just dominated Western Carolina 76-0.

Heisman candidate, Spencer Rattler, is the quarterback and has tossed 547 yards and six touchdowns this season. The Sooners also have two players over 100 yards rushing and are averaging 5.4 yards per carry as a team.

The defense has been labeled as better than in years past but is still unproven against a ranked opponent. This unit has recorded eight sacks this season, but more impressively forced seven fumbles and caught a pick.

Nebraska vs. Oklahoma Point Spread Prediction

There is a chance that Nebraska keeps the game close, but Oklahoma is likely to win in a blowout. They have unmatched talent, specifically on offense, and Rattler is poised for a stat-padding game.

Nebraska’s best hope is to go right at the Sooner and attack them, which worked well for Tulane in week one. Martinez is a dynamic quarterback that can run or throw effectively, and he will need to be on his game.

There is not much value on the moneyline in this game, so consider if OU can cover the three-touchdown spread. This is a tall task, but if they are built for the playoff, they will handle their business at home.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Oklahoma won the last matchup 21-10.

2. These teams have not met in over a decade.

3. Oklahoma leads the all-time series 45-38-3.

Best Bet: Oklahoma -22.5 (-110)

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Oklahoma Sooners Recap SEP 18TH 2021

Spencer Rattler threw for 214 yards and a touchdown as No. 3 Oklahoma beat visiting Nebraska 23-16 on Saturday.

The Sooners' 23 points were their fewest in more than five years.

Nebraska got the ball back with a chance to force overtime in the final minute, before a pair of Sooners sacks, and then a stop of Rahmir Johnson just short of the first down marker ended the game.

Oklahoma managed just 408 total yards, with 194 on the ground. Eric Gray ran 15 times for 84 yards for the Sooners (3-0).

In the waning seconds of the third quarter, Adrian Martinez finished off a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to cut the Sooners' lead.

But Kelen Meyer got his hand on the extra-point try, blocking it into the hands of Pat Fields, who grabbed it a yard deep in the end zone and returned it for a two-point conversion to put Oklahoma up 16-9.

Earlier in that Nebraska (2-2) drive, running back Gabe Ervin Jr. crumpled to the ground during a run. Ervin, who had 9 carries for 18 yards, left and didn't return.

The game was scheduled to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Nebraska's 35-31 1971 victory in Norman in a game dubbed "The Game of the Century."

Oklahoma opened with a 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to go ahead 7-0. But the Cornhuskers' defense, which had allowed just 10 total points in its previous two games, made life difficult for Rattler and the Sooners' offense after the early score.

The Cornhuskers answered the touchdown with a field goal for the last scoring of the half.

After going stagnant in the first half after the initial drive, the Sooners showed offensive life to extend their lead on Jeremiah Hall's 1-yard touchdown catch with just less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Kennedy Brooks scored early in the fourth quarter on a two-yard touchdown run to go up 23-9. Martinez hit Omar Manning for a touchdown later in the quarter to cut the deficit to one possession.

Martinez finished 19 of 25 for 289 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He ran for 34 yards and a score.
