The twelfth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys will head South to take on #25 Texas in a top-25 showdown this Saturday. OSU is a perfect 5-0, while the Longhorns are coming off of a heartbreaking last-second loss to #6 Oklahoma.

Although the teams are in different conferences, this game will have a significant impact on the national rankings. A win for the visitors could launch them into the top-10, while a Texas win would redeem last week’s loss.

There should be plenty of fireworks in Austin, Texas when these forces collide this Saturday. The game will kick off inside DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium at noon Eastern.

#12 Oklahoma State vs. #25 Texas Preview

The Cowboys have jumped out to a 5-0 start, impressively notching wins over ranked opponents in back-to-back weeks. However, they are yet to dominate a single game, producing an average margin of victory of less than a touchdown.

Quarterback Spencer Sanders has thrown for 781 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions in four games. Jaylen Warren dominates the ground game, having rushed for 512 yards and six touchdowns already.

The defense does not force a ton of turnovers but has managed 16 sacks in five games thus far. They play as a unit and are tough to break down, allowing just 18.6 points per game.

Texas, on the other hand, is 4-2 with losses to Arkansas and #6 Oklahoma and a win over #23 Louisiana. They have tremendous boom-or-bust potential and would rather find themselves in shootouts than low-scoring affairs.

Quarterback Casey Thompson has produced 1,095 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions through the air this season. Heisman candidate and running back Bijan Thompson, meanwhile, is at 789 yards and eight TDs. Xavier Worthy leads the wideouts with 514 yards and six scores.

The Texas defense has not been anywhere as good as the offense, allowing 26 points per game. This is skewed by a shutout against Rice; they have given up 39 average points over the last three weeks.

Oklahoma State vs. Texas Picks

Oklahoma State is a risky pick, mostly because they have not shown dominance at any point this season. All of their games have been within 11 points and unconvincing, though they are still undefeated.

Texas imposes a similar lack of confidence due to the porousness of their defense. Whether it is a fault of the program or the reputation of the Big 12, the Longhorns offer little-to-no resistance.

If this game ends up lighting up the scoreboard, Texas will have a major advantage. With Robinson playing at a Heisman level and Thompson’s consistency, they can score with anyone. Look for them to do just that and hand the visiting Cowboys their first loss of the season.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Both teams have beaten ranked opponents this season.

2. Texas leads the all-time series 26-9.

3. Texas has won matchups in each of the last two seasons.

Best Bet: Texas -5.5 (-110)
