This football game will kick off at 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 27th, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC were one of the worst teams in college football a season ago, with a 2-10 record overall and 0-8 in the SEC conference. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors of the MWC finished with a 6-7 overall record and a 3-5 record in the MWC conference.

This could potentially be a very ugly football game. Vanderbilt is looking to improve in 2022, and Hawaii is looking to be better as well. The Commodores record against the spread last season was 6-6 and the Rainbow Warriors record against the spread last season was 5-7-1.

Vanderbilt vs. Hawaii Preview, Trends and Stats

Junior quarterback Ken Seals will be the starting quarterback for the Vanderbilt Commodores once again this season. He is going to need to be much better if Vanderbilt wants to show signs of improvement. Seals completed only 56.7% of his passes for 1,181 yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions last season.

Junior wide receiver Will Sheppard returns; he caught 43 passes for 577 yards receiving (13.4 yards per catch) and four touchdowns last season for Vanderbilt.

Sophomore quarterback Brayden Schager takes over as the full-time starter because of quarterback Chevan Corderio transferring to San Jose State.

Schager completed 60.7% of his passes for 615 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions last season.

Senior running back Dedrick Parson rushed for 618 yards on 117 carries (5.3 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns last season. He will be the primary running back on this football team.

Vanderbilt vs. Hawaii Predictions

Week 0 is always tough to predict, no matter what level of football it is. The Vanderbilt Commodores were a laughing stock of college football a season ago, and they need to find some confidence in the first week of the regular season in out-of-conference play before the SEC play begins.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will need to keep pace offensively as they averaged 28.8 PPG a season ago and were ranked sixth in the MVC conference, but they had the second worst defense in the conference at 31.4 PPG.

They had a lot of turnover on the roster on the defensive side of the football and also had a lot of turnover on the offensive side of the football as well.

Vanderbilt is listed as the favorite to win this game, but going with the underdogs in Hawaii makes more sense here anyways. The Rainbow Warriors will take down the Commodores.

Final Score: Hawaii 31 - Vanderbilt 27

EXTRA POINTS

1. This will be Todd Graham's third season as the head coach at Hawaii.

Best Bet: Hawaii +7 (-115)
