Two teams coming off of narrow losses will face off in Week 6 when the Bengals take on the Lions. Each of these teams lost to a field goal to close the game, and both of them lost to NFC North teams. The Lions were defeated by their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings. Although they lost the game, they nearly took the game from Minnesota.

The Cincinnati Bengals were in the same position and could’ve ended the game themselves. Unfortunately for them, after a series of missed field goals by both teams, the Packers finally made one. It was a strange ending, to be sure, but the Bengals shouldn’t get down on themselves. They’ll have their chance to bounce back this week against the Lions.

Bengals vs. Lions Preview, Trends and Stats

The Cincinnati Bengals head to Detroit looking to wash last week out of their mouths. After having multiple chances to beat the Packers, the Bengals couldn’t find a way to close. This was mainly due to the missed field goals, but even before that, the problems started. The opening drive of overtime ended in an interception thrown by Joe Burrow.

The Bengals still find themselves near the top of the AFC North, but their grip is slipping. If they allow the Browns to overtake them, that could be it. Considering they face Baltimore in Week 7, a win over the Lions is desperately needed here. Hopefully, they’ve learned from the mistakes they made in Week 5.

The season just keeps getting worse for the 0-5 Detroit Lions. Through five weeks, their inability to close games has kept them from wins. In Week 5, they led the Minnesota Vikings 17-16 but allowed them to drive down the field to kick a game-winning field goal. The disappointment from the team and Head Coach Dan Campbell could be felt everywhere.

Finishing the game against the Vikings could’ve been a turning point. Now they’ll face one of the best teams in the AFC North. A team with a ton of offensive firepower and defense to back it up. If the Lions are unable to finish this week, Dan Campbell could find himself on the hot seat. To be fair, though, it’s not all on Dan Campbell.

Bengals at Lions Picks (NFL Week 6)

Bengals 30 - Lions 20

Although the Bengals will be traveling, they’re still narrow favorites. The Bengals also performed well against the team who just beat the Lions. Considering their history with the NFC North, this will be the Bengals’ last meeting with the division. So far, they’re 1-2 against the NFC North; evening, the record here will be vital.

Being able to cover all the weapons of the Bengals will be tough sledding for the Lions. Detroit’s defense has done well against “run-focused” teams, but not passing teams. The Bengals know how to mix it up well and will start fast. The slump that the Lions are in could be what dooms them in this game. Take the Bengals to win this one on the road against the downtrodden Lions.

Extra Points

1. The Cincinnati Bengals are 6-0 in all six meetings against the Lions.

2. The Bengals are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against the Lions.

3. Cincinnati is 5-0 ATS in their five road games against the Lions.

Best Bet: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Detroit Lions Recap OCT 17TH 2021

Joe Burrow tossed three touchdown passes to lift the visiting Cincinnati Bengals to a convincing 34-11 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Burrow completed 19 of 29 passes for 271 yards and connected on scoring strikes to running backs Joe Mixon and Chris Evans and tight end C.J. Uzomah.

Mixon's 40-yard touchdown reception came on a fourth-and-1 play early in the third quarter. He finished with five catches for 59 yards and also added 18 rushes on 94 carries for the Bengals (4-2).

Rookie Ja'Marr Chase redeemed himself after letting a ball go through his hands for an interception by making four receptions for 97 yards. He also provided a key downfield block on Mixon's touchdown catch.

Cincinnati's aggressive defense limited winless Detroit (0-6) to just four first downs and 51 total yards in the first half.

Jared Goff completed 28 of 42 passes for 202 yards for the Lions, with tight end T.J. Hockenson reeling in eight receptions for 74 yards. D'Andre Swift had 13 carries for 24 yards and a late touchdown to lead a Detroit rushing attack that finished with just 36 yards.

Cincinnati set the tone early as Burrows found Evans on an easy pitch and catch to open the scoring midway into the first quarter. The rookie running back beat Jalen Reeves-Maybin at the line of scrimmage and reeled in a 24-yard touchdown.

Chase hauled in a 34-yard catch along the sideline to set up Evan McPherson's 38-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 10-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Burrow rolled to his right and found an unmarked Mixon, who turned on the jets and benefited from Chase's downfield block before finding the end zone.

McPherson tacked on a 40-yard field late in the third quarter before Burrow feathered a 2-yard pass touchdown to Uzomah early in the fourth.

Austin Seibert made a 35-yard field goal midway into the fourth quarter to end Cincinnati's shutout bid. Seibert's field goal in a lopsided game was met with sarcastic cheering from the faithful at Ford Field.

The Bengals clearly thought the game essentially was over as Brandon Allen relieved Burrow at quarterback on the ensuing possession. Allen tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Auden Tate to push Cincinnati's lead to 34-3.
