The Atlanta Falcons had a rough start to their season, getting blown out 32-6. The Philadelphia Eagles came in and torched the Falcons defense. Strangely enough, that wasn’t the most glaring concern for the Falcons. Instead, it was their atrocious offensive line that allowed 3 sacks and 9 QB hits. Now the Falcons will face the Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady.

The Buccaneers had a near loss of their own and only narrowly escaped with a win. The Cowboys looked to be a lot more formidable than first led on. The Buccaneers were able to handle the late-game push and win 31-29. They’ll be at home against the Falcons who struggled to even put 6 points on the scoreboard. The question is, can Tampa Bay cover the big points spread?

Falcons vs. Buccaneers Preview, Stats and Trends

There aren’t a lot of positives for the Falcons heading into this game. They were simply outplayed on all three levels when they faced Philadelphia. We assume that the same thing will happen when they face Tampa Bay. The Falcons offensive line will let them down again against Tampa Bay. This could really pose a problem for Atlanta as Matt Ryan took a lot of hits in the game versus Philadelphia. Hopefully, they find a way to better protect Ryan before they face the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay has a wide receiver group that rivals anyone in the league. Antonio Brown looked to be one of Brady’s favorite targets. Brown finished the game on Sunday with 5 receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was a 47-yard bomb thrown by Brady when Brown got behind the Dallas secondary. The Falcons secondary is much worse than the Cowboy’s so you can only imagine how bad that could turn out. Brown isn’t the only player Brady will target, he still has Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, and Chris Godwin.

Falcons vs. Buccaneers Prediction

Falcons 7 - Buccaneers 34

Football is a game of will and it doesn’t seem that Atlanta has any left. This team has been battered around for a long time, and a full rebuild is needed. This game against the Buccaneers will prove how unprepared the Falcons are. The fact is, they’ll now face one of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL. They have no defense to contend with it, and the offensive line can’t protect long enough to pass downfield.

It’s unfortunate for the Falcons, but great for the Buccaneers who are on their way to 2-0. The point spread is going to be a lot to cover, but Tampa Bay can do it. Philadelphia was able to beat the Falcons by nearly 30 points. What Tampa Bay can’t do is treat this game like it’s a sure win. They need to go out there and treat the Falcons like division rivals and prepare the same way. Considering Tom Brady is the quarterback, that’ll be no sweat for Tampa Bay.

Extra Points

1. Tampa Bay has won 9 straight games including the 2020 season.

2. Tampa Bay is 4-1 ATS in their last five when playing at home.

3. Atlanta actually averages more rushing yards than Tampa Bay so far.

Best Bet: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -12.5 (-110)

Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap JAN 3TH 2021

Deion Jones returned a Jameis Winston interception 27 yards for the game-winning touchdown on the first play of overtime to give the visiting Atlanta Falcons the 28-22 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Sunday's regular-season finale.

Atlanta's Matt Ryan finished 30 of 51 for 301 yards and one touchdown, while kicker Younghoe Koo was 5-for-5 on field goals for the Falcons (7-9).

Atlanta opened the scoring with a trick play. Offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo checked in as an eligible receiver, and the Buccaneers (7-9) did not adjust correctly, as Ryan found Sambrailo for a 35-yard touchdown up the seam. It was the longest touchdown reception by an offensive lineman since at least 1950.

A field goal from Koo put the Falcons up 10-0 after the first quarter, but the Buccaneers started the second quarter by finishing a nine-play, 67-yard drive for a 2-yard Cameron Brate touchdown reception.

Koo nailed a field goal on the next possession, and then Winston threw an interception that put the Falcons in the red zone. But Jason Pierre-Paul strip-sacked Ryan, and Devin White returned it 91 yards for a touchdown.

The score put the Tampa Bay ahead for the first time in the game, 14-13, and was the longest fumble return in Buccaneers history.

Koo hit his third field goal with about a minute left, but Winston quickly drove Tampa Bay down the field. With 20 seconds left at the Atlanta 24, Winston was flushed out of the pocket and threw a prayer into the back of the end zone. Breshad Perriman came down with the ball for the score, giving the Bucs a 22-16 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Koo kicked his fourth field goal with 6:32 left in regulation to cut the Tampa Bay lead to 22-19. Koo then kicked another field goal as time expired -- capping a 65-yard drive -- to send the game into overtime.

Winston finished 13 of 24 for 201 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Tampa Bay. With the performance, he became the eighth player in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season.

He also became the first player to finish a season with at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, and set an NFL record for pick-sixes in a season with seven.

Matt Gay was 0-for-3 on field goals for Tampa Bay, missing from 49, 44 and 34 yards.
