The only team from the NFC East that came out with a win in Week 1 was the Philadelphia Eagles. The rest of the division is 0-1, heading into Week 2. That will all change when these two NFC East teams face off. One will end the week 1-1, and the other will be 0-2. New York’s offense had flashes of productivity but ultimately fell short against the Denver Broncos. Perhaps the most glaring problem for New York is QB Daniel Jones had the most running yards with 27.

The Washington Football Team nearly had a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately for them, they fell a few points short. They also lost starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a hip injury that he’ll be getting an MRI on. In the meantime, Taylor Heinicke will get the start and should fill in just fine.

New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team Week 2 Preview

As they head into this game, the Giants have to ask themselves how heavily they can rely on Saquon Barkley. In his return after an injury sidelined him for the 2020 season, he had ten attempts for 26 yards. We understand that they’re trying to avoid another injury, but Barkley needs to see more carries than that. He’s an offensive workhorse that needs to have opportunities to create offense. Considering the offense was stalled out in Week 1, expect a heavier dose of Barkley against Washington.

Although the Washington Football Team lost their starting quarterback, Taylor Heinicke is a great option. He’s got a lot of mobility and can make smart throws downfield. The coaching staff will try to ease him into the role, but Heinicke should have no problem picking it up. They can also lean on the running game a lot more against the Giants’ defense. Prepare to see a lot more of Antonio Gibson against a Giants team that allowed 165 yards rushing.

Giants vs. Washington Prediction

Giants 17 - Washington 23

These division matchups are always exciting to watch, and these two should be no different. Washington has an incredible pass rush that could overwhelm Daniel Jones. They’ve also got a great running offense, and the Giants surrendered a lot of rushing yards in Week 1. Look for the Washington Football Team to exploit the weak run defense of the Giants.

More importantly, the spread isn’t too large here; Washington only has to cover 4 points. They were favored by two points against the Chargers but unfortunately didn’t cover. That shouldn’t be much of a concern considering who the Chargers have at quarterback. You also should take the under in this game as neither team has shown a lot of scoring potential. Washington will control the game with the run and take shots only when conditions are perfect.

Extra Points

1. Taylor Heinicke will get the start at QB after Washington loses Ryan Fitzpatrick.

2. The New York Giants could be without TE Evan Engram.

3. The total has gone UNDER in 13 of the last 19 games between these two.

Best Bet: Washington -4 (-112) and UNDER 42.5 (-110)

New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team

Logan Ryan intercepted Alex Smith with 1:15 remaining as the New York Giants nearly squandered another lead but held on for a 23-20 victory over host Washington Football Team on Sunday.

The Giants (2-7) beat Washington (2-6) for the fifth straight time and appeared moments away from blowing a 17-point lead.

On 2-and-6 at Washington's 32-yard line, Alex Smith dropped back and threw a ball intended for Terry McLaurin over the middle of the field but Ryan stepped in front of the receiver and made the interception to secure the win.

Daniel Jones did not throw an interception for the second time this season. He completed 23-of-34 passes for 212 yards and threw a 16-yard touchdown to tight end Evan Engram.

Graham Gano kicked three field goals on a day in which the Giants forced five turnovers and gained 166 rushing yards.

Washington, which lost to the Giants by one point in Week 6, lost quarterback Kyle Allen to a serious ankle injury with 1:04 remaining in the first quarter.

NFL Network reported that Allen was diagnosed with a dislocation and a small fracture. Allen is slated to undergo an MRI exam on Monday, according to another report.

Smith, who returned from his own serious leg injury last month after being injured during a game in November 2018, was 24-for-32 for 325 yards and a 68-yard TD to McLaurin. Smith also was intercepted three times, unable to direct his 24th career game-winning drive.

McLaurin finished with seven receptions for 115 yards and the score.

The Giants capitalized on two Washington turnovers to take a 10-0 lead in the first 10-plus minutes.

Julius Peppers recovered a fumble by Washington receiver Antonio Gibson at New York's 19-yard line with 11:49 left and, after Austin Mack's 50-yard reception on the next play, Gano made his 16th straight field goal with 9:35 remaining to cap a seven-play drive.

The Giants went up 10-0 shortly after Madre Harper recovered a fumble by punt returner Isaiah Wright. Wayne Gallman breezed into the end zone four plays later with 4:15 left.

Washington quickly moved down the field to start the second half and got within 20-10 on Antonio Gibson's 1-yard plunge, but the Giants went up 23-10 on Gano's third field goal.

After getting a 44-yard field goal by Hopkins in the opening seconds of the fourth, Washington got within 23-20 after McLaurin took Smith's pass 68 yards for a score, eluding tackles by Ryan and Isaac Yiadom with 10:24 remaining.
