Panthers Prepared for Oilers’ Best in Crucial Game 4
The Florida Panthers know they’ll need to be ready for a fierce response from the Edmonton Oilers when the Stanley Cup Final resumes Thursday in Sunrise, Fla.
Edmonton showed its frustration late in Monday’s 6-1 loss, and now faces a pivotal Game 4 trailing 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. The Oilers must channel their angst into a winning effort — or risk falling into a daunting 3-1 hole.
“We’ve always been a good team at coming back out with a strong effort,” Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl said. “Obviously it was not our best showing, not our best game, but we have a great chance … to show what our team is all about.”

Oilers Searching for Answers
Edmonton’s path to this point has been fueled by an improved defensive structure complementing their offensive firepower. But the Oilers have struggled in the Final, surrendering 13 goals through three games while lacking discipline in key moments.
Goaltender Stuart Skinner is feeling the pressure, owning an .866 save percentage for the series. Yet the challenge is team-wide, as Edmonton must regain its form to even the series.
“It’s one game. We’re looking for the whole series,” defenseman Mattias Ekholm said. “We know we’re down 2-1 and we gotta be better next game … but we’re one win away from having the best-out-of-three (series) with two home games.”
Coach Kris Knoblauch hinted that lineup changes are coming, with Troy Stecher a possibility to replace John Klingberg on defense. Knoblauch also did not confirm who will start in net.
Panthers Focused on the Moment
Florida is staying grounded despite a dominant Game 3 victory. Coach Paul Maurice has made it clear the Panthers must reset and prepare for a tougher battle ahead.
“Every game starts at zeros, and it’s a reset and it’s a mental reset,” Maurice said. “We got beat 8-1 in Edmonton (in Game 4 during last year’s finals) and then came back and played Game 5 here, and for me that was the best game we played in the entire playoffs and we lost the game.”
After holding Edmonton’s dynamic duo in check — Draisaitl was held without a shot, and Connor McDavid managed just two shots and no points — the Panthers expect the Oilers to respond with their best effort.
“The experience of taking a beating and then being able to come back and play your next game lets you know (character is) there,” Maurice added. “It’s also what we expect from Edmonton.”
Florida Stars Stepping Up
Encouraging signs for the defending Stanley Cup champions came in Game 3, as key contributors rose to the occasion.
Sam Reinhart, who has been battling an injury since the Eastern Conference Final, recorded a goal and an assist. Captain Aleksander Barkov — scoreless in the series before Game 3 — was instrumental in creating Reinhart’s goal with a crucial turnover.
“I always can be better but all I’m thinking about is winning the game,” Barkov said.
