FC Cincinnati Seeks to Keep D.C. United Down
FC Cincinnati will look to patch up their defensive issues and return to winning ways when they host D.C. United on Saturday night in a clash of contrasting recent form.
Cincinnati (9-4-3, 30 points) has dropped points in its last two matches, conceding a total of seven goals in a 4-2 loss at Atlanta and a 3-3 draw at home against FC Dallas. Against Dallas, the Orange and Blue gave away leads of 2-0 and 3-2, wasting a standout effort that included Kevin Denkey’s ninth goal of the season — a team high.

“It was a tale of two halves. We were excellent in the first half, and we were embarrassing in the second half,” said FCC head coach Pat Noonan. “There were guys that had no idea how to manage a two-goal lead and manage the momentum.”
D.C. Still Struggling Without Benteke
Despite their current backline woes, Cincinnati may view Saturday’s fixture as an ideal opportunity to regroup. D.C. United (3-7-6, 15 points) has been anemic in front of goal since losing star striker Christian Benteke to an ankle injury. The Belgian forward, who has six goals this season, has missed over 340 minutes of play and may still be unavailable.
The Black-and-Red finally snapped a 495-minute scoreless drought with a thunderous strike from Gabriel Pirani in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution. It was Pirani’s first goal of the season and one D.C. desperately needed.
“Gabi does make special plays,” said D.C. manager Troy Lesesne. “But we needed that moment. Because I think everyone recognizes that it could’ve been a match where it ends 1-0 and it’s a different conversation.”
With uncertainty surrounding Benteke’s return and offensive production still lagging, bettors should closely watch this matchup for potential MLS Game Predictions and Soccer Betting Picks. Cincinnati’s home field and offensive depth give them the edge — if their defense can hold the line.
