The Revolution Can Win If…

The New England Revolution need a spark to end their nine-match winless skid. They could get it from Matt Turner, the 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, who returns on loan from Olympique Lyonnais. While it’s unclear if he will start, Turner’s leadership and experience could stabilize a shaky defense.

Head coach Caleb Porter emphasized Turner’s impact, saying, “The winning feeling, the confidence, experience, and that leadership, those are the things that I think you’ll see.”

The Revs will also count on playmaker Carles Gil (8 goals, 7 assists) to orchestrate the attack and create scoring chances, particularly against a D.C. defense that has conceded 47 goals this season.

D.C. United Can Win If…

D.C. United finally have Christian Benteke back in the lineup. The team’s top scorer (8 goals) missed the first meeting against New England but has scored in each of his last two appearances. His physical presence and finishing ability could trouble New England’s back line.

Coach Kevin Flanagan noted, “He looks sharp, and he looks fit. Having him on the pitch this weekend, leading the line, gives everybody in the squad that extra bit of confidence.”

If Benteke receives quality service, D.C. has the tools to take advantage of New England’s poor home form — the Revs are 0-6-2 in their last eight at Gillette Stadium.

The Lean

With both clubs desperate for points and struggling to find form, this match could be tight. The return of key players makes it competitive, but their recent trends suggest another stalemate is likely.
