Revolution Hoping to Reset After Break

New England (6-5-5, 23 points) suffered a tough 1-0 loss to FC Cincinnati on June 14, which ended their impressive nine-match unbeaten run (5-0-4). Despite a rocky 1-4-1 start to the season, the Revolution have found form and climbed out of the Eastern Conference cellar.

“We’ve made a lot of progress from Day 1 of preseason to now,” Revs defender Tanner Beason said. “It took a bit of time to build, so now we need to approach the rest of the season with an attitude that we can win and start to put more points on the table.”

While the Revolution have struggled to find the net — just 19 goals this season — their defense has been a major strength, allowing only 15 goals through 16 matches, second fewest in MLS. Midfielder Carles Gil leads the attack with six goals and four assists, while keeper Aljaz Ivacic has recorded seven clean sheets.

Nashville Riding 9-Game Unbeaten Streak

Nashville SC (9-4-5, 32 points) hasn’t lost since a 3-0 setback at Seattle on April 19 and will put its nine-match unbeaten streak (5-0-4) on the line Wednesday. The last time these two met, they played to a 0-0 draw to open the season back in February.

Head coach B.J. Callaghan knows New England won’t be an easy opponent despite the standings.

“The best compliment I can give New England is that they’re a very difficult team to play against, both with and without the ball,” Callaghan said. “They have some attacking players that can really hurt you and they’re really stingy on the defensive side. New England is always a difficult place to play. We expect it to be a traditional Eastern Conference battle, but I think the guys are up for the challenge.”

Nashville last played on June 14, picking up a 2-0 road win over Chicago. Sam Surridge remains the attacking catalyst with 12 goals, ranking second in the league.
