Charlotte FC Begin Long Road Trip in New York to Face Red Bulls

After snapping a five-game MLS losing streak, Charlotte FC hit the road to face the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, kicking off a season-long five-match road trip with hopes of carrying their momentum forward.

Charlotte (7-7-1, 22 points) is coming off a dramatic 3-2 home win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday — their first league victory since April 19. While the team had struggled to find results in recent weeks, coach Dean Smith had no doubt a breakthrough was coming.

“The result’s not a surprise to me,” Smith said. “I think our performances have probably deserved more points than we’ve got in the last five games.”

Offensive Trio Sparks Charlotte Turnaround

Charlotte’s resurgence came thanks to a lethal display from their front three. Patrick Agyemang scored a brace — his first of the season — to flip the match after an early Columbus goal, while Pep Biel notched the late game-winner. Wilfried Zaha chipped in with his first two assists of the year. Collectively, the trio now has 13 goals on the season and is quickly becoming one of the most potent attacks in the conference.

“We felt dangerous today,” said Agyemang. “That’s how we are supposed to be as a front three.”

However, Charlotte’s road form remains an issue. They’ve won just once in seven away games (1-5-1), a trend they’ll need to buck against a Red Bulls side that has found their footing at home.

New York (6-6-3, 21 points) snapped their own two-game slide last Saturday with a 2-0 win at D.C. United — their first road victory of the season. Goals from Cameron Harper and Mohammed Sofo sealed the win and lifted the Red Bulls back into playoff contention.

“There was a lot kind of riding on this game,” Harper said. “It’s wins like these that can change your season around.”

The Red Bulls are 5-1-1 at home this year and remain unbeaten in their last six matches against Charlotte across all competitions (3-0-3). That history, combined with Charlotte’s shaky road record, adds an intriguing edge to any MLS Predictions and Match Analysis for this Eastern Conference clash.
