Eastern Conference Rivals Clash Saturday Seeking Offensive Sparks
Both Orlando City and Atlanta United are hungry for a breakthrough when they meet Saturday night in a key Eastern Conference matchup.
Orlando City (3-2-4, 13 points) remains unbeaten since early March, but frustration is mounting after three straight scoreless draws. Their latest offensive shortfall came in a 0-0 tie against CF Montreal, one of the few winless teams in Major League Soccer.
Head coach Oscar Pareja acknowledged the team’s need for urgency in the attack.
“Obviously we are concerned about not scoring goals,” Pareja said. “We want to keep our defensive balance, but we have to get back to finding the net if we want to start picking up three points.”
Luis Muriel provided Orlando’s last goal nearly a month ago, but the attacking spark from team leaders Martin Ojeda and Marco Pasalic — both with four goals — has been noticeably absent of late.
Atlanta Seeking Reset After Consecutive Shutouts
Atlanta United (2-4-3, 9 points) arrives with struggles of its own. They have failed to score in back-to-back losses, falling 1-0 to the New England Revolution and 3-0 to the Philadelphia Union.
Their offensive issues will be compounded Saturday without leading scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath, who will serve a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation. Latte Lath has accounted for five of Atlanta’s goals this season, leaving Miguel Almiron (two goals) and others to shoulder the load.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan emphasized the urgency surrounding Saturday’s match.
“We understand what it means to our supporters, to our fans,” Guzan said. “It’s a huge opportunity for us. There’s no better place to turn this thing around than Orlando.”
Atlanta is looking for its first win since March 29, and a positive result against their Eastern Conference rival could be pivotal in resetting their season’s course.
