Phillies Looking to Regain Division Lead
The Phillies slipped a half-game back in the NL East after dropping a wild 9-8 loss in 11 innings to Boston on Wednesday. That defeat spoiled back-to-back home runs by Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber in the first inning. Harper’s blast made him the youngest active player to reach 350 career homers.

“The offense was good tonight,” manager Rob Thomson said. “The bullpen was good. That fifth inning was just a killer, that’s all.”
Right-hander Taijuan Walker (3-5, 3.75 ERA) will make his third start since returning from the IL. Walker has been shaky, allowing three runs on nine hits in four innings his last time out, but the Phillies’ bats carried them to a 9-5 win over the Angels.
Walker is 2-4 with a 4.47 ERA in nine career starts vs. the Yankees, so he’ll need some run support again.
Yankees Fighting Through Defensive Woes
The Yankees have struggled since a dominant May, going 21-26 since May 30 and slipping four games back in the AL East. Their defense has been a major issue—seven errors in three games vs. Toronto cost them a series.

Rookie right-hander Will Warren (6-5, 4.91 ERA) will take the mound for New York. He’s coming off his shortest outing since May 31, allowing five runs in 3 2/3 innings in Atlanta. Warren made his MLB debut against the Phillies in 2024, giving up four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
