Padres Face Big Test Against Yankees’ Bronx Power Surge
The San Diego Padres may boast the best pitching staff in baseball, but they’ll need to prove it in one of MLB’s most hitter-friendly parks when they begin a high-stakes road series against the New York Yankees on Monday night.
Road Woes Meet Bronx Bombers’ Power
San Diego’s pitching has been elite at Petco Park, but on the road, the Padres have been far more vulnerable. Despite leading the majors with a 2.75 ERA, their away mark climbs to 4.15 — a figure they’ll need to tighten against a Yankees squad that’s crushed 37 of their 57 homers at home.

The Padres are hoping to ride the momentum of a three-game sweep over the Pirates, in which they allowed only five runs, struck out 22, and capped the set with a 4-0 shutout. It was their eighth shutout this year, and just their second away from home.
“Hopefully get back to home with a winning record on the road,” said third baseman Manny Machado. “We haven’t really been playing well on the road.”

Padres Bats Heating Up
Machado is red-hot at the plate, going 8-for-21 over his last five games, and Xander Bogaerts snapped a slump with a three-RBI effort Sunday. Fernando Tatis Jr. also returned from a forearm scare to play consecutive games.
The Padres’ offense is beginning to align with their pitching, making them a legitimate two-way threat — but they’ll need to stay sharp to neutralize Yankee Stadium’s offensive boost.
Yankees Lean on Judge, Look for Consistency
New York is just 5-7 over its past 12 games, alternating between explosive scoring and quiet performances. Aaron Judge has been the lone constant, extending his hitting streak to 14 games and his on-base streak to 30. He’s hitting .474 over that span.
“We battle with the best of them,” Judge said. “We got faith in everybody in this lineup.”
Judge has fared decently against Padres starter Nick Pivetta, going 5-for-18 in past meetings. Pivetta (5-1, 1.78 ERA) is on a tear, but his career 6.99 ERA against the Yankees raises red flags.

Carlos Rodon (4-3, 3.43 ERA) will counter for New York, carrying a 0.95 ERA over his last three starts. He’s held opponents to four hits or fewer in every start this season and owns a 2.88 ERA in four career outings vs. the Padres.
