Quinn Priester, Brewers Take Aim at Pirates

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester is set to face his former team for the first time as the Brewers continue their four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park.

Priester (1-2, 4.66 ERA), a first-round draft pick by the Pirates in 2019, was traded to the Boston Red Sox last year before being acquired by the Brewers in April. Since joining Milwaukee, the 24-year-old has shown improvement, including a season-high 5 1/3 innings pitched in his latest outing against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two in a 5-4 Brewers victory.

“We’ve seen flashes from Priester,” Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said recently. “There have been days he’s really good, and then there are days where you realize this kid is really young and still has work to do. Our pitching coaches are still really excited to have him. He’s a great kid with a great foundation.”

Milwaukee is looking for Priester to provide length on Saturday, especially after both teams utilized multiple relievers in Friday night’s 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Pirates. The Brewers used four relievers, while the Pirates used six. Milwaukee ace Freddy Peralta had his shortest start of the season, lasting just 4 1/3 innings.

For those tracking MLB betting picks, Priester’s performance against his former team adds an intriguing angle to Saturday’s matchup.

Pirates Seek Continued Offensive Resurgence

After a month of offensive struggles, the Pirates have shown signs of life at the plate in the first two games against the Brewers. On Friday, Pittsburgh scored six runs—their highest output since April 22—a day after ending a streak of 26 games scoring four runs or fewer.

Oneil Cruz has been instrumental in this resurgence, hitting two solo home runs on Friday and contributing significantly in Thursday’s game as well.

“It always feels good to be able to do what I did (Friday), but especially to do it in front of our fans, that means a lot,” Cruz said during a post-game interview on the Pirates’ broadcast.

Pittsburgh’s Mitch Keller (1-6, 3.88 ERA) will take the mound, aiming to secure his first win in ten starts. Despite allowing three runs or fewer in seven of those outings, he has been unable to notch a victory. In his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, Keller gave up two runs (one earned) over six innings in a 7-1 loss.
