Kings Can Secure Home Play-In Game With Win Over Suns
The Sacramento Kings enter Sunday’s regular-season finale with plenty on the line. A win over the visiting Phoenix Suns guarantees them the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference play-in tournament — and more importantly, home-court advantage in a must-win game against the Dallas Mavericks.
Sacramento (39-42) holds the tiebreaker over Dallas and will host the play-in if they win Sunday. However, a Kings loss combined with a Dallas victory over Memphis would drop Sacramento to the No. 10 seed and force them to hit the road for their postseason opener.
The Kings were in a stronger position just a few days ago, but back-to-back home losses — 124-116 to Denver on Wednesday and 101-100 to the Clippers on Friday — have added pressure to Sunday’s matchup.

“To look forward, our physicality was really good, especially defensively… If we take that into every game, we’ll have a chance,”
– Kings forward Keegan Murray after Friday’s one-point loss.
Sacramento has one of the NBA’s most efficient offenses, averaging 115.8 points per game, but defense has been an issue all year. However, holding the Clippers to 101 marked their best defensive showing since a March 3 rout of Dallas.

The Kings will be without key contributor Malik Monk (calf), who also missed the past two games. Meanwhile, the Suns (36-45) are officially out of the playoff picture and will be playing without Kevin Durant (rest), who leads the team with 26.6 points per game.
“It’s disheartening. Nobody’s more pissed off about it than we are as a team,”
– Suns guard Bradley Beal on the team’s disappointing season.
Phoenix snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 117-98 win over the Spurs on Friday. Beal had 21 points in the victory and 25 on Wednesday against OKC, but the late push was too little, too late. The Suns are just 11-23 since Feb. 1 and head into the offseason facing significant speculation about changes across the board.
Though Phoenix is out of the race, they did beat Sacramento once this season — a 122-106 victory on March 14. In that game, Devin Booker and Durant both scored 22, and Tyus Jones added 20 off the bench. The Kings, however, won the two previous meetings and will look to finish 3-1 in the season series.
