Ole Miss Running Nose-First Into 2nd-Round Showdown vs. Arkansas
Ole Miss coach Chris Beard has a simple, two-part message for his team entering the SEC tournament: “Be us, and smell the roses.”
Rebels Looking to Make a Statement
The No. 8 seed Rebels (21-10) aim to bring their best when they open SEC tournament play in the second round Thursday in Nashville, Tenn. Ole Miss faces No. 9 seed Arkansas (20-12), which advanced by defeating No. 16 seed South Carolina 72-68 in the first round Wednesday.

“We’re reminding the guys that as postseason March begins, let’s not forget what got us here. We’ve earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.” – Ole Miss coach Chris Beard
The Rebels boast four wins over current Top 25 teams, including No. 5 Alabama and No. 8 Tennessee. Beard wants his squad to play within themselves and stick to what has worked all season.
“What you don’t want to do is have guys try to do things they haven’t tried all year or have the team try to play in a different way than we have all year. I believe if we bring Ole Miss’ best game on offense and defense that we’ve seen throughout the season, then we’ll have a chance to be really competitive this month.” – Beard
Ole Miss dropped its final regular-season game, falling 90-71 at then-No. 5 Florida on Saturday. However, the Rebels already defeated Arkansas once this season, winning 73-66 on Jan. 8 in Fayetteville.
Razorbacks Battling for Postseason Survival
The Razorbacks built a 20-point lead against South Carolina before nearly squandering it in the final minutes. Still, they held on to secure their fifth win in six games.
“We’ve done this a bunch, have a 16-, 18-point lead and are ready to bury a team, then get a little tentative. Guys try to be perfect. You’re not going to be perfect. Just go make plays. But at this point, just win the game and move on to the next one.” – Arkansas coach John Calipari
Trevon Brazile led the way for Arkansas with 16 points in the win, as the Razorbacks continue to come together as a unit at the right time.
