Surging Indiana Needs Win at Washington to Boost NCAA Tournament Chances
Indiana gets the distinction of being the last Big Ten team to visit the West Coast since the conference expanded to 18 teams. The Hoosiers will face Washington on Saturday in Seattle before heading to Oregon on Tuesday.
Indiana Fighting for Tournament Spot
The Hoosiers (17-11, 8-9 Big Ten) have won three of their last four games, positioning themselves on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Their latest victory came Wednesday in an 83-78 comeback win over Penn State, adding to recent upsets over ranked Michigan State and Purdue.

“I think we’re coming together and we know we’re a better team than we’ve shown,” Indiana senior guard Trey Galloway said. “And we still have a chance and we’re fighting for a spot in the tournament.”
Oumar Ballo leads Indiana with 13.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. The Hoosiers, however, may be without forward Malik Reneau (12.8 ppg), who was hospitalized with an illness and missed Wednesday’s win. His status remains uncertain.
“He was fine in shootaround. Then he came down with something,” Indiana coach Mike Woodson said. “So I don’t know where we are with Malik right now. But the sooner he can get back, the better.”
Washington Struggling in Big Ten Play
The Huskies (13-15, 4-13 Big Ten) have dropped three straight games and now sit at the bottom of the conference standings. To have a shot at making the Big Ten Tournament, Washington must win at least two of its final three games, as only the top 15 teams qualify.
Washington suffered an 88-62 defeat at No. 11 Wisconsin on Tuesday, with Great Osobor being the only Husky to reach double figures with 11 points.
“There’s a great Bear Bryant quote,” Huskies coach Danny Sprinkle said. “You never know what kind of horse you got until you hook them to a heavy load. I told our guys, ‘Your load is heavy.’ We’re going to find out what we’re made of, and I’m excited to see what we’re made of too. I expect us to play really well.”
What’s at Stake
Indiana is desperate for another resume-boosting win to solidify its NCAA Tournament hopes, while Washington fights to avoid missing the Big Ten Tournament entirely. Expect a high-intensity battle in Seattle.
