Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Recap DEC 13TH 2020

Gardner Minshew threw two first-quarter touchdowns Thursday night and the Jacksonville Jaguars' defense took it from there, stifling the error-prone Tennessee Titans for a 20-7 win at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jacksonville (1-2) struck first, taking the lead less than two minutes into the game and never letting go. Minshew, starting his second NFL game in place of the injured Nick Foles, completed 20 of 30 passes for 204 yards with no interceptions and a quarterback rating of 108.2.

It was a completely different story for Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota, who suffered nine sacks for 55 yards and couldn't find any traction against the aggressive Jaguars' defense. Mariota hit 23 of 40 passes for 304 yards, 81 of those on a meaningless final drive, with no touchdowns or interceptions.

Jacksonville also shut down Derrick Henry, who tied an NFL record with a 99-yard run in the teams' last meeting last December and set a franchise single-game record with 238 yards. Henry managed only 44 yards on 17 attempts.

Minshew hit tight end James O'Shaughnessy with a 7-yard touchdown pass just 1:58 into the game for a 7-0 lead, one play after Titans punt returner Adoree' Jackson tried to field a bouncing punt inside the 20. He couldn't corral it and Leon Jacobs recovered it, returning it to the 7.

The Jaguars made it 14-0 at the 6:36 mark of the first when Minshew connected with DJ Chark on a 22-yard scoring strike to polish off a 62-yard drive. Josh Lambo upped the margin to 17-0 with 7:54 left in the third quarter by connecting on a 40-yard field goal.

Henry's 1-yard run with 12:04 left in the game pulled the Titans within 17-7, but Lambo tacked on a 48-yard field goal with 7:34 remaining for the final points.

Calais Campbell finished with three sacks for Jacksonville, while Josh Allen and Dawuane Smoot bagged two each.

Derrick Henry rushed for 215 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries to lead the visiting Tennessee Titans to a 31-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

The Titans (9-4) maintained their lead in the AFC South, beating the Jaguars (1-12) for the seventh time in their past eight meetings, and clinched their fifth consecutive winning season.

Henry, who has put up several prolific rushing performances throughout his career against the Jaguars, surpassed 100 rushing yards in a game at Jacksonville for the first time.

Ryan Tannehill completed 19 of 24 passes for 212 yards and threw two touchdowns to finish with a 131.2 passer rating.

Tannehill's first touchdown -- a 37-yard pass to A.J. Brown in the first quarter -- came on a flea-flicker where Henry pitched the ball back to him. Brown caught seven passes for 112 yards on nine targets and Geoff Swaim caught Tannehill's other touchdown toss.

Defensive tackle Doug Costin recovered a fumble by Corey Davis that led to a 53-yard field goal by Aldrick Rosas cutting Tennessee's lead to 7-3 with 3:32 left in the second quarter.

But the Titans answered with a five-play, 75-yard drive. Each play was a run by Henry, capped by a 36-yard touchdown scamper with 44 seconds left in the first half.

Trailing 31-3 with 8:48 left in the third quarter, the Jaguars benched quarterback Mike Glennon (13 for 23, 85 yards, 46.5 passer rating) after he was intercepted by Malcolm Butler, and replaced him with Gardner Minshew II.

Playing for the first time since Week 7 against the Chargers, Minshew directed an 11-play, 60-yard touchdown drive capped by his 5-yard toss to Keelan Cole.

After the Jaguars forced a punt on the ensuing drive, Minshew led a 74-yard march into the Titans' red zone on six plays. But Minshew threw four consecutive incompletions, resulting in a loss on downs.

Minshew completed 18 of 31 passes for 178 yards and finished with an 85.1 passer rating.

Jaguars running back James Robinson finished with 67 yards on 12 carries to become the first undrafted rookie in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards rushing through the first 14 weeks of a season.
