Can Lucas Glover defend his 2021 John Deere Classic win? The John Deere Classic was one of the 2020 tournaments shuttered last year by COVID-19. Thankfully the event made a return to the schedule in 2021 at its home course of TPC Deere Run located at Silvis, Illinois. Glover won by two strokes over both Ryan Moore and Kevin Na.
This is a perfect field for Glover to repeat as many of the big names are resting up before the Open Championship – aka – the British Open. That’s great news for the defending John Deere winner and people looking for value picks!
The favorite this week is Webb Simpson at +1100. Simpson missed the cut at the U.S. Open but stormed back with a T13 at the Travelers last week. He opened that tournament with a 64 on Thursday and a 69 on Friday and 66, and 71 on the weekend. Simpson has a nice game going as does Sahith Theegala who comes in at +2200.
This is a fantastic week for value picks to jump up and grab a win as the field strength falls off due to so many players resting up before the Open (British Open) Championship. Also, this tournament is once again a qualifier for the famed tournament and there are still three slots for the Open available.

As in years past, you can expect some long drives off the tee at TPC Deere Run. This course lends itself to long drives that funnel towards playable landing zones. If a tee shot can stay in the fairway, and carry some distance, on the Par 4 and Par 5 holes then players can take some of the fairway hazards out of play.
The rough at TPC Deere Run can be unforgiving and elevation changes are dramatic on some holes. Many of the greens are elevated with a few false fronts and plenty of side bunkers. The flip side is that once on the green putters should become hot. The course finishes with water along the left side of the green on No. 18 which always makes for a dramatic finish.
2022 John Deere Classic Predictions
Sahith Theegala +2200
Sahith Theegala is coming on strong. The California native has had an impressive 2022 so far with a T2 at the Travelers, a T3 at Phoenix, and a T5 at the Memorial. He’s had one CUT in his last ten outings and has moved to No. 66 on the OWGR and 37th in the FedEx rankings. Theegala seems to be getting into a groove down the stretch of the 2022 season.

Lucas Glover is the defending champ but his best finish this season is his T5 at the Sony Open. He finished T27 at the PGA Championship. Glover will need a strong showing from his putter and the short game once again at TPC Deere Run. He was strong off the tee last year which set him up for aggressive approach shots. He needs to use the same game plan to be in the hunt on Sunday.

Adam Svensson has had a strong couple of tournaments with two top-25 finishes and a putter that has come alive. He was T7 at the Sony Open, T9 at the Honda Classic, and finished T21 at the Canadian Open. He would be the first to tell you his finish in his home country of Canada should have been better.
Others: Charles Howell III (+3300) has been hovering around the leaders’ plenty of times this season. He was T4 at the Texas Open and T18 at the Memorial. Zach Johnson (+9000) won this event in 2012 and he has 12 PGA Tour wins. This is a perfect field for him to show his stuff.
