The 2022 MLS season got off to a strong start last weekend. There weren’t too many surprises though Austin and Columbus went off scoring five and four goals, respectively, in Week 1.
The Crew, a favorite to win the MLS Cup, won its first match. Seattle, also in the mix for this year’s Cup, lost its first match to Nashville. Both teams will be in action this week.
How will they fare this week? Here is a look at the MLS Week 2 predictions and odds.
New England vs. Dallas
Pick: NEW ENGLAND -190
The Revolution started the new season with a 2-2 draw against Portland last week. New England, coached by Bruce Arena, had 16 shots.
Dallas also played to a draw last week battling Toronto to a 1-1 final. Don’t forget, New England won the Supporter’s Shield last season. Dallas finished in 11th place in the Western Conference. The Revolution shouldn’t struggle to win on Saturday.
San Jose vs. Columbus
Pick: COLUMBUS +170
Columbus is one of the favorites to win the MLS Cup this season. The Crew opened the 2022 season with a big 4-0 win over Vancouver last week. Lucas Zeleravan, Derrick Etienne, Luis Diaz, and Miguel Berry all scored goals for the winners.
San Jose was tied with the Red Bulls at 1-1 last week with 20 minutes to play. The Earthquakes lost 3-1. The 2020 MLS champion Crew is the better team in this matchup and gets the road win.
Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle
Pick: REAL SALT LAKE +190
As mentioned, the Sounders lost their first match of the season to Nashville. They did manage 58 percent possession and 10 shots, but only two were on target as the Sounders failed to score.
In their previous six matches, Seattle has a total of just three goals. The Sounders didn’t win any of those six matches.
Real Salt Lake battled to a 0-0 draw last week against Houston. Like Seattle, Real Salt Lake has had problems scoring. They have just four goals in their most recent six matches. With both teams struggling to score, expect a close, low-scoring affair. The edge goes to the home team – Real Salt Lake.
FC Cincinnati vs. DC United
Pick: DC UNITED +110
There is no surprise here. DC United got its first win of the 2022 season last week when the club beat MLS newcomer Charlotte. DC United won easily 3-0.
This week, DC United will travel to Ohio to take on FC Cincinnati. In each of the past three seasons, FC Cincinnati has earned the Wooden Spoon. That, of course, goes to the team that finishes dead last in MLS. Don’t be surprised if FC Cincinnati does it again this season.
FC Cincinnati opened the 2022 season by getting waxed 5-0 by Austin in Week 1. DC United wins easily this week.
