The third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Auburn Tigers this weekend. Bama currently leads the Southeastern Conference’s West Division at 6-1, though they will be coming under fire from the Tigers.

Even though Auburn is only 6-5, they have already beaten the #17 and #10 teams in the nation. At the same time, they have lost three straight games, while the Tide has won five straight.

Alabama controls the “Iron Bowl” all-time series 47-37-1 and won last year’s matchup 42-13. This year’s renewal of the long-standing rivalry will kick off inside Jordan-Hare Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Alabama vs. Auburn Preview, Trends and Stats

Alabama has a nearly perfect record of 10-1 this season with a lone 41-38 loss to Texas A&M. Their quarterback is a frontrunner for the Heisman trophy, though their defense is not as solid as in years past.

Bryce Young takes the snaps under center, throwing for 3,584 yards, 38 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Brian Robinson Jr. dominates the ground game, boasting 945 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jameson Williams leads all receivers with 1,218 yards and 13 scores.

Alabama’s defense has allowed nearly 25 points to SEC opponents, which is fairly uncharacteristic for them. Most recently, they let Arkansas score 35 points, including 358 passing yards. Linebacker Will Anderson Jr. is second in the NCAA with 13 sacks, leading the defensive charge.

Auburn, meanwhile, is 6-5, with three of their losses coming to ranked opponents. They climbed as high as 13th before losing three games in a row, knocking them out of the top-25. Still, they can pose a real threat to nearly any team when they have their day.

QB Bo Nix leads his side with 2,294 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three picks. Tank Bigsby has shot out to 940 yards and 10 TDs, while Jarquez Hunter has 574 and three scores. Three receivers are over 400 yards, although none of them have exceeded 500 just yet.

The Tigers’ defense has been a mixed back, ultimately allowing 25 points per game to ranked sides. Last weekend, they held South Carolina to 21 before eventually losing the contest. They do not force many turnovers, but they play with speed in the middle of the field.

Alabama vs. Auburn Predictions

It has reached the time of the season where a loss to a top-four team could have catastrophic consequences. With the Tide already having one loss on their resume, faltering would effectively ruin their chances at the playoffs.

If there is any team that loves to upset Alabama, it is Auburn. This fierce rivalry has a well-publicized history and usually lives up to the hype.

With that being said, Alabama should still be able to cruise through the game. Auburn has no answer for their elite passing attack and is not explosive enough to respond.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Alabama leads all-time 47-37-1.

2. Alabama won last year’s meeting.

3. Auburn is 2-3 against ranked teams, while Bama is 6-1 against SEC teams.

Best Bet: Auburn +19.5 (-110)

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Auburn Tigers

Running back Shaun Shivers bulled his way for the decisive 11-yard touchdown on his only carry of the afternoon as No. 15 Auburn dealt a fatal blow to fifth-ranked Alabama's playoff hopes with a 48-45 victory over the Crimson Tide on Saturday in Auburn, Ala.

Kicker Joseph Bulova's 30-yard field goal bounced off the left upright with two minutes left, denying the Tide an opportunity to send the game to overtime.

Freshman quarterback Bo Nix passed for 173 yards and a touchdown, running back JaTarvious Whitlow accounted for 114 yards rushing and 29 receiving, and kicker Anders Carlson kicked four field goals for the Tigers (9-3, 5-3 SEC).

Auburn ran out the clock after the missed field goal, thanks to a fourth-down conversion when Alabama was penalized 5 yards for a substitution infraction.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, in his second start since Tua Tagovailoa's season-ending hip injury, completed 26 of 39 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns for the Tide (10-2, 6-2 SEC). Three of his touchdowns went to wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, covering 58, 12 and 28 yards. Waddle also scored on a 98-yard kickoff return.

But Jones also threw a pair of interceptions that Auburn returned for touchdowns by linebacker Zakoby McClain (100 yards) and Smoke Monday (29).

The second-highest-scoring Iron Bowl in series history was chugging along at 10-10 midway through the second quarter when the fireworks began. Starting with Monday's 29-yard interception return, the teams put up five touchdowns and a field goal over the last 5 minutes, 36 seconds of the half.

The Tide's touchdowns came on Waddle's long kickoff return that followed Monday's pick, receiver Henry Ruggs III's 3-yard touchdown reception, and Waddle's 58-yard scoring sprint after securing Jones' flat pass.

After Monday's touchdown, the Tigers' scored on Nix's 14-yard pass to receiver Sal Cannella and Carlson's 52-yard field goal that was set up when officials put a second back on the clock after a review following Whitlow's 17-yard gain on a screen pass.

The 93 points are second only to the 99 total in Alabama's 55-44 win in 2014.

Whitlow finished with 114 yards on 16 carries. Alabama's Najee Harris ran for 146 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.
