Chiefs and Chargers Head to Brazil for Blockbuster Season Opener
The 2025 NFL season opens in bold fashion — under the lights, across borders, and with an AFC West rivalry in full focus. Kansas City and Los Angeles will battle in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday night, marking the league’s first-ever regular-season game in South America.
The matchup has playoff implications already baked in. Kansas City has dominated the division for nearly a decade, but the Chargers — under second-year head coach Jim Harbaugh — are loaded with young talent and hoping to reverse a seven-game losing skid to the Chiefs.
Chiefs Enter New Year with Familiar Goals

Jones, Spagnuolo Anchor Aggressive Chiefs Defense
All-Pro DT Chris Jones returns as the centerpiece of a Kansas City defense that allowed only two touchdown passes in two matchups with Justin Herbert last year. The team’s energy is focused, according to DC Steve Spagnuolo, who used this week’s first meeting to spotlight Chargers WR Ladd McConkey.
Jones, known for his dominance and sense of humor, is also looking forward to the international setting.
Chargers Look to End Chiefs’ AFC West Reign
L.A. will once again rely on Justin Herbert, who delivered 23 touchdowns to just three interceptions in his first season under Harbaugh. With Keenan Allen back and Ladd McConkey ascending, the passing game has options — but Harbaugh’s approach starts on the ground.
