2022 March Madness South Region Preview, Odds and Picks

The South Region of the NCAA Tournament is the top-right hand corner of the bracket, and it’s a pretty loaded field. The Arizona Wildcats are the top seed in the South Region, but a loaded field will all give the Wildcats some trouble.

Looking at the entire NCAA Tournament bracket can get overwhelming at times, but focusing on just one region makes things more manageable. Here is a closer look at the South Region, and a pick to make it to the Final Four is included at the end.

Top Contenders to Win the South Bracket

The Arizona Wildcats are an obvious contender to win the South Region, and they enter the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 31-3. Arizona has an offense that can simply take over a game, and they will be hard to stop throughout the tournament.

The Villanova Wildcats are the number two seed in the South, and that’s another program that knows how to win in March. Villanova, and head coach Jay Wright, has a roster full of veterans, and they won’t be fun to deal with.

Seeds 3-5 are Tennessee, Illinois, and Houston, and each of those teams will provide a real challenge for Arizona. Tennessee just won the SEC Tournament last weekend, and Houston was in the Final Four a season ago.

Other teams could potentially make a run as well, but it would be a shock to see the champion come from outside of this group.

Underdogs to Watch

The Michigan Wolverines snuck into the NCAA Tournament field as a number 11 seed, and they will open up with a game against Colorado State. It doesn’t feel right calling Michigan an underdog to watch out for, but that is exactly what they are heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Another underdog in the South Region is a team with plenty of history of success in March. The Loyola Chicago Ramblers enter the field as a number 10 seed in the South, and they have been known to go on big runs in the NCAA Tournament.

2022 South Region Winner Prediction

You could make a pretty good case that the Arizona Wildcats have been the best team in the country this season, and it’s going to take a great effort to eliminate them from the field. There are enough good teams in the South to get the job done, especially the Tennessee Volunteers.

There will be some upsets that take place throughout the South Region, but the best team is eventually going to come out on top. The Arizona Wildcats have been on a mission all season long, and there isn’t a team in this region that can keep them from reaching the Final Four.
