The 2025-26 NFL regular season has concluded and we’re on the cusp of a thrilling Playoffs that feature a number of new faces and a few old ones still trying for another Super Bowl ring. However, a few of these key players are also competing for another honor – the NFL MVP Award.
Currently, there are a handful of Playoff-bound stars that have odds for the upcoming NFL MVP Award. Yet, the reality is that this MVP honor is really a two-player race: Matthew Stafford and Drake Maye.
For most of the year, the reigning MVP Josh Allen was considered a contender for the league’s top individual award. However, he faded down the final stretch of the season. And, while that opened the door to other stars like Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence, their odds are perfect examples of a longshot.
With that said, let’s take a look at the latest NFL odds for the MVP award and make our NFL pick on who will become the 2025-26 NFL MVP.
When Is The NFL MVP Announced?
The NFL MVP Award is announced during Super Bowl week at the NFL Honors ceremony. This live awards show will be held in February 2026, in the Bay Area. Super Bowl 60 will take place at Levi’s Stadium, the home of the San Francisco 49ers, which is located in Santa Clara, California.
Leading up to the ceremony, many fans use platforms like the FanDuel Predicts app as a marketplace to buy or sell their opinions on the winner as the market shifts in real-time.
Who Won The NFL MVP in 2025?
As mentioned above, the 2025 NFL MVP race was a hotly contested and ferociously debated topic throughout the season. In the end, Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen won his first MVP Award by narrowly edging out Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.
Allen finished with 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23. Allen scored a total of 378 to Jackson’s 352. While, there have been ties and closer finishes in the voting, this race was very divisive among the NFL fans, pundits, and commentators.
One thing we can all agree on, Allen’s MVP Award speech was very classy and showed why he’s Western New York’s favorite son.

Stafford started the year as a +5000 longshot to win the MVP. Drake Maye started at +4000 odds but sits as the second odds-on favorite at +135 to +145.

NFL MVP Contenders
The following is a list of NFL players who are the top contenders to win the 2025-26 NFL MVP Award:
Matthew Stafford – Los Angeles Rams
Matthew Stafford led the Los Angeles Rams to a 12-5 record with one of the toughest, if not the toughest, schedules in the league.
He finished the year with 4,707 passing yards, 46 TDs and 8 INTs. Stafford led the league in yards and touchdowns. Stafford was also second with a 109.2 rating and fourth with a 71.0 QBR.
Critics will point to Stafford finishing two games behind Maye in the standings and having two elite wide receivers, compared to the Patriots with a no.2 receiver coming off a torn ACL, as reasons that he shouldn’t win the MVP.
Drake Maye – New England Patriots
Drake Maye’s season has been fun to watch even if I am a Bills fan and hate the Patriots. In fact, I made the following predictions for Maye and the Patriots at the start of the season:
“The Patriots success this season will come down to how well Maye plays. And, I expect the sophomore QB to take a big step towards becoming a Top 10 quarterback in this league.”
And, that’s exactly what he did. Maye led the NFL with a 72% completion percentage, 113.5 rating and 77.2 QBR. He was also 4th in passing yards (4,394 yds) and 3rd in passing TDs (31). Maye tallied 450 rushing yards and four TDs on the ground, as well.
Maye led this team to a 14-3 record, an AFC East title, and the no.2 seed in the AFC Playoffs. We’re looking at a Top 10 QB for the present and future of the NFL. Get him a legitimate no.1 receiver and we could be looking at a multi-time MVP Award winner.
With that said, critics points to the Patriots having the easiest schedule in the NFL this year and taking the 4th most sacks (47) as reasons for Maye not winning the MVP.
Can A Longshot Pull Off The Upset?
If there was a longshot that could benefit from the postseason as a factor in this award, it would be Trevor Lawrence (+25000). The Jaguars finished with the no.3 seed in the AFC (13-4), just one game behind the Broncos and Patriots.
Yet, Jacksonville went into Denver and defeated them in Week 16. They also beat the Chargers, Texans, Colts twice, 49ers, Chiefs and Panthers. That’s five wins against Playoff teams.
Lawrence finished the year 6th in passing yards (4,007) and 5th in TD passes (29). He also put up nine rushing touchdowns, as well. Lawrence and the Jags are a real threat in the AFC, especially since they can beat the Bills in the opening round.
Caleb Williams (+50000) would be another longshot that could make a move towards this award if the postseason counted. I expect Williams to win at least one Playoff game, if not more. Williams was 6th in passing TDs (27) and passing yards (3,942). But he had just 7 INTs compared to 12 interceptions for Lawrence.
Additionally, Williams led the Bears to a 11-6 record and the no.2 seed in the NFC. It was a huge improvement over last year. Williams could be a real contender for this award next season. I’d put him in my Top 5 preseason favorites for the 2026-27 MVP Award along with Allen, Maye, Mahomes, and Purdy.
NFL MVP Award Predictions
At the beginning of the season, I picked Patrick Mahomes to win the NFL MVP Award. And, at the midway point, he was in the thick of things as Mahomes was one of the top statistical QBs in the league. Unfortunately, a few tough outings and a torn ACL knocked him out of the running and the Chiefs out of making the Playoffs.
It should be noted, that despite Stafford being the frontrunner for the majority of the season, Maye did overtake him as the odds-on favorite heading into the final regular season weekend. Stafford finished that game with four TDs and reminded everyone why he is the MVP.
It’s hard to argue against what Stafford has done. His stats are better than Maye’s despite the Patriots having two more wins than the Rams.
With that said, I am siding with Stafford even though I like Maye more so. The GOAT Tom Brady is picking Stafford to win the MVP Award. So, if he can pick against a Patriots QB, then so can I.
Bet: Matthew Stafford (-180)
