With the season at the halfway point, the player prop betting on MLB games ramps up, and there are a lot of prop bets available. Below are the best MLB player prop bets you can place on Monday.
Nick Lodolo Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-154)
Cincinnati Reds’ left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo hasn’t been able to ease into his MLB career. Lodolo, who has made six starts this season, has faced six opponents with playoff aspirations.
In his last outing, Lodolo was chased after two innings by the St. Louis Cardinals but still struck out five batters even though he allowed five runs and five hits.
Lodolo will have a chance Monday night to face a team like the Reds, who have been out of playoff contention basically since the season started, in the Miami Marlins. The Marlins are the 10th worst team in the league in terms of strikeouts per game. Miami strikes out an average of 8.71 times per contest.
O’Neil Cruz Two or More Total Bases (+115)
Pittsburgh Pirates rookie shortstop O’Neil Cruz has shown flashes of brilliance during his rookie season. However, Cruz has also shown a lot of growing pains at the plate, as his .203 batting average in July and .208 batting average for the season reflect.
However, Cruz gave everyone a sight to behold on Sunday, blasting a pitch from Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara over the right-field fence.
Cruz will be facing Cubs pitcher Adrian Sampson Monday. Sampson isn’t known to pile up huge strikeout totals; he has 23 in 32.1 innings of work this season but is a solid starter.
Sampson has allowed 31 hits and three home runs so far this season. Cruz will take advantage of Sampson’s weaknesses and find a way to get an extra-base hit.
Tony Gonsolin Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-122)
Tony Gonsolin is one of only ten players in MLB history to not take a decision loss in his first 17 starts of the season. Ironically, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher took his first loss on a big stage during the All-Star game last Tuesday.
In his one inning, Gonsolin allowed three runs that would be the deciding ones in the American League’s 3-2 win.
Despite the setback in the All-Star game, Gonsolin should be able to round back into form when he pitches for the Dodgers against the Washington Nationals Monday.
Gonsolin has recorded six or more strikeouts in two of his past three starts. The Nationals are mired deep in the Juan Soto drama and haven’t played well on the field. This is a good spot for Gonsolin to bounce back.
Chris Flexen Under 4.5 Strikeouts (+100)
Seattle Mariners pitcher Chris Flexen has labored to get swings and misses over his past two starts. On July 17, against the Texas Rangers, Flexen was chased after 3.2 innings and allowed four hits and only struck out three batters. In his previous start against the Nationals, Flexen only had one strikeouts in six innings of work.
On the season, Flexen has had a solid season, compiling a 6-8 record with a 3.79 ERA. During this regular season, Flexen has piled up 70 strikeouts in 99.2 innings pitched. He’s allowed 12 home runs and issued 35 walks.
