2023 March Madness Odds and Predictions

March Madness is almost here. Selection Sunday is in three days and then millions of Americans will fill in brackets for the 2023 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. Let’s look at the latest March Madness odds.

In April 2022, we analyzed the early futures odds for March Madness 2023.

March Madness Bookies

Duke were favored at 9/1 odds and North Carolina were next in the market at 11/1 odds. Both teams have struggled this season. UNC are on the bubble and might not even make the tournament this year.

On the flip side, there was some early value to be had. Houston (+550) are favored to win the tournament now, but were paying 16/1 odds last April. Alabama (+800) were available at 28/1 odds last April as well.

Will One of the Top Four Favorites Win March Madness 2023?

Houston (+550), Kansas (+800), Alabama (+800) and UCLA (+1000) are projected to be #1 seeds. Will one of these favorites win? Since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, a #1 seed has won the tournament 23 times. There’s a good chance one of these four teams will be crowned champions.

Out of the four market leaders, UCLA are offering the best value at 10/1 odds. UCLA are currently 27-4 and on a 10-game winning streak, but they’re just 3-3 against ranked opponents this season.

Houston are 29-2, but they’re 1-1 against ranked opponents and haven’t been tested much. Alabama are 26-5 (1st in the SEC) and 5-4 against ranked opponents, including a win against Houston.

Kansas are the defending champs, but have been inconsistent at times this season. They were just blown out by Texas (75-59) and they’re only 7-5 against ranked opponents, but they’re battle tested and could go on another run during March Madness, which culminates with another National Championship.

Potential Sleepers to Win March Madness 2023

Gonzaga (+1800) are ranked 9th in the country and have been playing better basketball as of late. They have four players scoring over 10.0 PPG. Drew Timme averages 20.9 PPG and 7.3 RPG.

The Bulldogs have won nine consecutive games, including two against Saint Mary’s. Gonzaga are 4-4 against ranked opponents, which includes a hard-fought win against Alabama.

Marquette (+3000) are ranked #6 in the country and offering 30/1 odds to win a title. Marquette are 5-2 against ranked opponents this season with the team’s best win coming against Baylor.

2023 March Madness Futures Picks

I’ll be betting on UCLA to win March Madness this year. The Bruins are led by senior Jaime Jaquez Jr. who leads the team in points (17.5 PPG) and rebounds (8.0 RPG) this season.

This is an experienced team, but they do lack size, which might hurt them depending upon who they end up playing in the tournament. They have one of the best defenses, allowing just 60.1 PPG (5th).

I’m also placing a bet on Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are the highest scoring team in the country (86.5 PPG), but they often struggle defensively. The Zags have finished runner-up twice, but never won a title.

After losing to Baylor in the 2021 National Championship Game, Gonzaga were eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen last season. Look for them to advance further and potentially win their first title this season.

Best Bets: UCLA (+1000) and Gonzaga (+1800)
