It’s the NHL All-Star Weekend taking center stage the next couple of days.
2023 NHL All-Star Weekend Schedule
The 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend is being hosted in sunny Florida at the FLA Live Arena. The action will get underway on Friday night with the 2023 NHL Skills competition starting at 7:00 PM ET.
The 2023 NHL All-Star Game will start on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM ET.
2023 NHL All-Star Game Format
This year’s NHL All-Star Game will follow the same format that has been used since 2016.
There will be a 3-on-3 single-elimination tournament featuring the four division teams. The Central Division will play the Pacific Division and the Metropolitan Division will play the Atlantic Division.
The winners of each game will advance to the finals with the chance to win $1 million and bragging rights.
2023 NHL All-Star Game Predictions and Rosters
You can bet on the winner of the NHL All-Star Game tournament, plus the first two games.
Game #1: Central vs. Pacific Predictions
Odds: Central (-125) vs. Pacific (+105) / Over 13.5 (-105) vs. Under 13.5 (-115)
Central Roster: F Kirill Kaprizov (MIN), F Clayton Keller (ARI), F Nathan MacKinnon (COL), F Mikko Rantanen (COL), F Jason Robertson (DAL), F Vladimir Tarasenko (STL), D Seth Jones (CHI), D Cale Makar (COL), D Josh Morrissey (WPG), G Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) and G Juuse Saros (NSH)
Pacific Roster: F Leon Draisaitl (EDM), F Kevin Fiala (LAK), F Bo Horvat (NYI), F Nazem Kadri (CGY), F Connor McDavid (EDM), F Elias Pettersson (VAN), F Chandler Stephenson (VGK), F Troy Terry (ANA), D Erik Karlsson (SJS), G Stuart Skinner (EDM) and G Logan Thompson (VGK)
The big question here is can the Central offense keep up with Draisaitl and McDavid? Central will have an edge at defense and when Makar is on the ice it’ll be like having three offensive players.
Central also have a small edge at goalie with Hellebuyck having a stellar season.
With Robertson (33G), Rantanen (34G) and Kaprizov (27G), scoring shouldn’t be a problem for Central and I’m betting on them to eliminate Pacific in the first game of the single-elimination tournament.
Game #2: Metropolitan vs. Atlantic Predictions
Odds: Metropolitan (+100) vs. Atlantic (-120) / Over 11.5 (-115) vs. Under 11.5 (-105)
Metropolitan Roster: F Sidney Crosby (PIT), F Johnny Gaudreau (CBJ), F Kevin Hayes (PHI), F Jack Hughes (NJD), F Brock Nelson (NYI), F Alex Ovechkin (WSH), F Artemi Panarin (NYR), F Andrei Svechnikov (CAR), D Adam Fox (NYR), G Igor Shesterkin (NYR) and G Ilya Sorokin (NYI)
Atlantic Roster: F Aleksander Barkov (FLA), F Nikita Kucherov (TBL), F Dylan Larkin (DET), F Mitchell Marner (TOR), F David Pastrnak (BOS), F Nick Suzuki (MTL), F Brady Tkachuk (OTT), F Matthew Tkachuk (FLA), D Rasmus Dahlin (BUF), G Andrei Vasilevskiy (TBL) and G Linus Ullmark (BOS)
You have to go with Atlantic in Game #2. Ullmark is the #1 goalie in the NHL this season and Vasilevskiy is still putting up top 10 numbers. They’ll want to shut down the Metropolitan all-stars.
Even with Auston Matthews and Tage Thompson out with injuries, Atlantic still have Pastrnak (38G), Kucherov (72P), M. Tkachuk (25G) and Marner (60P). This roster is stacked from top to bottom.
I have Central and Atlantic playing in the deciding game to determine the winner.
Here are the odds to win the 2023 NHL All-Star Game:
Central (+250) / Atlantic (+250) / Pacific (+300) / Metropolitan (+300)
Either team can end up winning, but I’m betting on Atlantic (+250). Since the format changed in 2016, Atlantic and Central have never won the All-Star Game, but that’ll change in 2023.
Pacific have won three times (2016, 2018 and 2020), while Metropolitan have also won it three times (2017, 2019 and 2022). There was no 2021 NHL All-Star Game due to COVID-19.
