Del Mar Thoroughbred Club near San Diego was the place to be last weekend for betting on the races. The 2021 Breeders’ Cup produced some of the most amazing horse racing finishes of the entire year.
Horse bettors can turn to Del Mar again this weekend for some exciting racing action featuring up and coming two-year old fillies and colts. Now is the time of the year to focus your attention on the next class of three year old’s heading in the 2022 racing season.
With a pair of seven-furlong sprints on Del Mar’s live weekend racing card, the best horse betting action continues at this famed Southern California track.
2021 Desi Arnaz Stakes Predictions
The field is still coming together for this Saturday’s seven-furlong sprint on the dirt track at Del Mar. Going through the list of 10 probable entries listed at Horse Racing Nation, the following three would be my Win – Place – Show bets.
Win: Tonito’s
Trained by Doug O’Neill, this two-year old Kentucky-bred filly looked sharp in her recent victory at Santa Anita on Oct. 23 in a six-furlong Maiden Special Weight race. This was her racing debut and she showed some decent speed covering that distance on turf in 1:09.21.
Place: Benedict Canyon
This is the first of two fillies trained by Bob Baffert in my top three for this race. Sired by Midnight Lute, she is coming off a third-place finish in the ungraded Anoakia Stakes on Oct. 24 at Santa Anita. This followed a pair of top three finishes at Del Mar in Maiden Special Weight events to start her racing career.
Show: Eda
Also trained by Baffert, this two-year old Kentucky-bred filly won the Anoakia Stakes her last time out. She placed fifth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes on Sept. 5 after placing second at that track in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes in early August.
2021 Bob Hope Stakes Predictions

HRN has listed nine juveniles as probable for Sunday’s seven-furlong sprint on Del Mar’s dirt track. After breaking down this list, I like the three colts listed below to finish in the money for this Grade 3 major stakes event.
Win: Thirsty Always
This two-year old California-bred colt caught my eye with his recent victory in the ungraded Royal Oaks Stakes at Los Alamitos. Trained by Walter Solis, he covered the 5½ furlongs on dirt in 1:03.28. Earlier this season, the son of Stay Thirty finished third in the ungraded I’m Smokin Stakes at Del Mar. He started his racing career with a pair of wins at Del Mar during the summer.
Place: Rock N Rye
This is another probable entry in this race trained by Solis. Also sired by Stay Thirsty, this juvenile colt placed second in the Royal Oaks. Also bred in California, he has finished in the money in all six of his races this season. This includes a victory at Del Mar in the ungraded Graduation Stakes in early August.
Show: Forbidden Kingdom
Trained by Richard Mandella, this two-year Kentucky-bred colt was sired by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. After winning his racing debut at Del Mar in a Maiden Special Weight event, he placed third in the ungraded Speakeasy Stakes on Oct. 1 at Santa Anita.
