MLB Betting Props – Brewers’ Non-Support Makes Team Total Appetizing

The Milwaukee Brewers have three members of their starting pitching rotation who are literally crushing it. Yet they are just above the .500 mark at this point.

Why is that? Well, it’s because they are not scoring runs. And too many times, the efforts of their hurlers are going to waste. You might say that they deserve to be better than 24-23, but the fact of the matter is that they have been outscored by 17 runs on the season.

So now they step into the breech against the San Diego Padres in a Tuesday night game taking place at Miller Park. Game time is 7:40 PM ET. And we think we can point bettors in the right direction.

Right-handers will oppose each other in this one. Joe Musgrove takes the mound for the Padres, while Corbin Burnes gets the call for the Brewers.

Here’s the setup:

Well, we can say the Brew Crew hasn’t scored enough runs until just recently. After Freddy Peralta was beneficiary of nine runs by the Brewers against Cincinnati, Brandon Woodruff was able to get some breathing room against the Padres.

Woodruff at least had five runs scored for him; it was the first time Milwaukee had tallied more than two runs in any of his starts. Overall he is getting 2.11 runs per game. And his ERA of 1.41 is the lowest of any starting pitcher who qualifies. He has also held the opposition to a .125 batting average over his last nine outings.

Peralta has struck out more batters per nine innings (13.8) and yielded fewer hits per nine innings (4.3) of anyone in the American League.

And then there is Tuesday’s starter, Corbin Burnes, who should not be confused with Corbin Bernsen, who played a third baseman and then a manager in the “Major League” movie franchise.

Burnes has struck out 67 batters in 40 innings with just TWO walks. So yes, he could be in a position to set a new one-season standard in Major League Baseball. Success is not new for him; he was 7-0 with a 2.61 ERA as a rookie and finished eighth in the National League Cy Young voting last season. But this year he’s been off the charts.

Burnes has a 2-3 record, which would be inexplicable, except that there is an explanation for it.

MLB Predictions Tonight

He’s made seven starts this season. In four of those starts, the Brewers have scored one run or less, with three shutout defeats.

They are giving him 2.61 runs per start. And they are scoring less than 3.8 runs per contest overall.

Musgrove tossed a no-hitter early in the season against Texas. And he was striking out everybody in sight. He slowed down a bit at the beginning of May, but has gotten back on track since. Over his last two starts he’s struck out 16 and walked four, allowing just seven hits over 12 innings.

He started against Milwaukee on April 19, giving up two runs on four hits and fanned THIRTEEN over seven innings.

So is the Milwaukee team total something to look closely at? You bet it is.

The Play: MILWAUKEE UNDER 3.5 (-121)
