NCAA Basketball: Best Totals to Bet on Tonight

Tonight is a great night for betting college basketball. There are more than a few middle-range teams and a lot of bad teams, that are playing each other. We love it when bad teams play each other and here is why… There are more than a handful of bad teams that can score a ton of points against other bad teams.

These games offer value on the over. The middle of the pack teams often hold each other close and this means they clamp down on defense and the under is a great value. This is what we have tonight, a lot of teams that will run each other out of the gym, and others that will struggle to score 50 points. Let’s take a look at a few totals and find out how you can cash in on tonight’s action.

(#23) Virginia Vs. Notre Dame Picks

Purcell Pavilion, South Bend Indiana

Tipoff: 6:00 PM ET

TV: ACCN

Pick: Over 127.5

This game is a defensive juggernaut, but this does not mean the game is going under. Here is why… Virginia allows 61.3 points per game and Notre Dame allows 76.5. On the offensive side of the ball, Notre Dame is scoring 76.5 points per game and Virginia 74.4 points per game. So, the argument for the under is the simple idea that UVA is holding its opponents to an average of 61.3 PPG. Let’s turn the table and look at Notre Dames’ opponents over the last five games and how many points they scored. Bellarmine-81, Purdue-78, Duke-65, UK-64, OSU-85.

Notre Dame has shown they can indeed score against good or bad teams and they walked away from the Kentucky matchup with an outright win. Virginia was throttled by Gonzaga on the 26th, 98-75. Beyond this, they have beaten Willa and Mary 76-40, Kent 71-64, SFPA, 76-51, and a loss to SF 61-60. You see the low numbers that Virginia held its opponents to, this means nothing! Notre Dame is a much better team than any of the opponents we just mentioned. This game will be close and most likely in the low 140’s.

(#7) Tennessee Vs. (#12) Missouri Picks

Mizzou Arena, Columbia, Missouri

Tipoff: 9:00 PM ET

TV: SECN

Pick: Over 133

This is a great game in many regards. Both teams are well capable of hanging around and stealing one. The problem we have with Tennessee is the strength of the schedule. They haven’t played anybody that matters, with total respect to Cincinnati. Missouri on the other hand, they have played the likes of Illinois, Wichita, and Oregon and has won the last 4 in a row. Both teams are well-coached, and the state lines are close. Tennessee scores more and they allow fewer points than Missouri, however, the margin of error is thin. These two do battle tonight and stretch the score over 133.

Totals are a fun way to bet because it leaves you with just one rooting interest – either the under or the over. Both of these games will be fun and close. We like good teams that keep it close, this usually means an over, not always but tonight we like our chances.
