Are ready for what could be considered professional golf’s version of a cage match? The Thanksgiving week kicks off the slow part of the PGA Schedule that takes place during the Holiday and Christmas seasons. The good news is that TV executives love finding ways to pack airtime with offerings to all kinds of sports fans including those that love golf.

And, TV executives love a good rivalry. Bring on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau who have been famously arguing with each other for several seasons. That was until they were forced to work with each other during this season’s past Ryder Cup competition. But who knows, The Match 5 is a made-for-TV event that could bring out some of the old tension between the two players.

The odds are pretty simple to read as there are only two players instead of the team up with celebrities as in the last few years. It will be interesting to watch the two navigate Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas as the event is trimmed down to only 12 holes. Both will have an opportunity to use their skill sets without a few redundant holes. Dechambeau will be able to air a few long drives out and Koepka will have opportunities to carve a few shots. The true test may be how the two scramble around the greens.

Wynn Golf Club is located a nine-iron away from the famed Las Vegas strip. The course is packed with trees, traps, and has water hazards on twelve of eighteen holes. It was designed by Tom Fazio.

Koepka nursed a few injuries last year but still finished strong he finished in the top-10 eight times and had one win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. DeChambeau had two wins including the 2020 U.S. Open which was played late in September and he had nine top-10 finishes. Both are eight-time winners on Tour.

The Match was originally set up as a head-to-head battle against Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. It was Mickelson who won the first event and he repeated in the 1 st 2020 contest with teammate Charles Barkley. This year Mickelson will be manning a microphone. “It will be interesting for me to be a part of that,” The legendary lefty said. “I’ll be on the course with them too, and try to get some of their personalities.”
