A year ago, Trea Turner bounced from Washington to the Los Angeles Dodgers. One thing that didn’t bounce was his ability to hit. Turner wound up leading the majors in hits with 195.
He will be among the favorites to do so again in 2022. With the emphasis on the long ball, true hitters are hard to find these days. There are, however, quite a few talented hitters that could lead the majors in hits.
Here’s a look at the 2022 MLB regular season hits leader picks.
Anderson the Favorite
The White Sox Tim Anderson led the majors in 2019 with a .335 batting average. He has followed that up with .322 and .309 seasons in 2020 and 2021. Anderson did not finish in the top 10 in hits last year. He had 163, but he missed 39 games last season. If he had played 162-game season, Anderson was on pace for 214 hits.
That is why he is the overall favorite at +1000 this season. Plus, Anderson and the White Sox play in the weakest division in baseball – the AL Central. That means 19 games each against the likes of Cleveland, Kansas City, and Detroit.
Blue Jays Duo
Pick one. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette. Both are outstanding hitters. Last season, Bichette hit .298 and finished second in the hits race with 191. That’s why Bichette is given +1100 odds to win the MLB hit title this year.
Guerrero tied for the major league lead in home runs last year, but he also batted .311. Guerrero finished right behind his teammate Bichette in the hits race last season with 188. Guerrero has tremendous power but is also a great contact hitter. The Blue Jays will contend for the AL East Division title and Bichette and Guerrero will be a big part of that run.
Repeat?

Turner hits in a loaded lineup in Los Angeles and will get to see his fair share of good pitches in 2022. That’s why he is right on the heels of the favorites at +1200 to repeat as hits champ.
Remember, in 2020 Turner had 78 hits in 59 games. That was MLB’s shortened season due to COVID. Over a 162-game season, that total translates to 214 hits. Turner was on pace for 200-plus last year before his trade from Washington to L.A.
New Blood
The best prospect in baseball is ready to make a name for himself. Wander Franco made his MLB debut and played 70 games last season. He hit .288 and had 81 hits for the Rays, who won the AL East Division title. Over 162 games, Franco was on pace for 187 hits. It will be interesting to see what Franco (+1200) can do over a full season.
You can’t forget about Kansas City 2B Whit Merrifield. He led MLB in hits in 2019 with 206. He hit .277 last season, the lowest of his career, and wound up fourth with 184 hits. Merrifield is listed at +1500 to win the title this year.
2022 MLB Hits Leader Prediction
Bichette and Guerrero are fan favorites as Toronto is getting a lot of hype to win the AL East, the AL, and even the World Series.
Still, the best contact hitter in baseball is Anderson. He gets overlooked playing for the White Sox, a team that features a couple of other young stars in Luis Robert (+2200) and Eloy Jiminez. Then, there is Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada, and Yasmani Grandal. It’s Anderson that makes the White Sox go though and that’s why he is the pick to capture the MLB hits title.
