It’s time for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway. And, as could be predicted, NASCAR has tweaked the rules that will govern the race. More on that below. This is the second year in a row that Texas has hosted the event after it moved from Charlotte to Bristol. But one thing that has not changed is what drivers are coming in as the favorites!
Once again, Kyle Larson comes in as the lone favorite and Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott are right with him. Larson enters at +600 with both Busch and Elliott coming in at +700 for the Sunday night race. Larson is the defending All-Star race winner with Elliott winning the event in 2020.
What’s important to know about the race this week is that there are two races. The Sunday night event opens with the All-Star Open which kicks off at 5:30 and includes all of the drivers not already locked into the main event. The winners of the stages will advance to the All-Star Race which has a start time of 8:00 PM. Another driver will be added to the All-Star race with the results of the NASCAR Fan Vote.
Even with the Open Race and the possibility of a darkhorse entry, oddsmakers seem to think that familiar names will once again rise to the top. On the other hand, this is race weekend with a limited number of drivers in the “show” as the final race will have under 20 drivers while a normal field has 38 to 40 cars. Here are the favorite drivers through +1000 to win the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race outright.
Kyle Larson +600
Kyle Busch +700
Chase Elliott +700
William Byron +900
Ross Chastain +1000

This is the second time that the All-Star Race has been held at Texas Motor Speedway and NASCAR has rolled out the red carpet of fun ideas to make it interesting! Like last year, this is not your regular race where they go around and around from start to finish.
This event includes the best rules from hometown weekend race tracks across the country! That even includes inverting the field! Here are the basics of this Sunday’s All-Star Race.
The race will consist of four stages, with the first three 25 laps in length and the fourth and final being a 50-lap shootout for the $1 million prize. The new format has provided a major incentive to win any of the opening three stages or the pit stop competition during the break between Stages 2 and 3.
Stage 1 (25 laps): Stage 1 winner will start on the pole in the final stage as long as he finishes 15th or better in Stages 2 and 3.
Stage 2 (25 laps): Stage 2 winner starts second in final stage as long as he finishes 15th or better in Stage 3.
Special Stage Break (Pit Stop Competition): Each team must pit and perform a four-tire stop. The team with the shortest time on pit road (pit in/pit out) wins the pit crew award and the driver will start fourth in the final stage as long as he finishes 15th or better in Stage 3.
Stage 3 (25 laps): Stage 3 winner starts third in final stage.
Stage 4 (50 laps): Stage 1 winner starts first, Stage 2 winner second, Stage 3 winner third and pit stop competition winner fourth. If a “natural” caution occurs between laps 15-25 of the final stage, standard race procedures will be in effect. If no “natural” caution occurs during that time, NASCAR will call an “All Star” competition caution. Winner of the Stage 4 earns $1 million.

2022 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race Predictions
Kyle Larson +333
Kyle Larson is the hot driver heading into this weekend. He has two wins on the season and he’s also great on 1.5-mile speedways! Seven of his nine Cup Series wins have come on them with 76 top-ten finishes. If Larson can stay towards the front and make it through the funky All-Star format, he may be a lock. The one issue is that this race is not set up for long green flag runs which Larson seems to be a master at leading.
Ross Chastain +1000
Ross Chastain has turned into one of NASCAR’s most competitive drivers in 2022. Nobody had an idea what would happen after Justin Marks started Trackhouse Racing and bought the NASCAR division of Chip Ganassi Racing. It looks like the move has down well, to say the least. Chastain has won twice this season and has finished 7th or better nine times this season. His first win of 2022 came on a road course and he followed that up with a checkered flag at Talladega.
Ryan Blaney +1200
Ryan Blaney is a possible value pick at +1200 in a race with a limited field. He’s the strongest Ford on the odds list and has finished 8th or better in his last four starts at Texas. Blaney has a win on a 1.5-mile track with 20 top-ten runs six of which came at Texas. He’s locked into the All-Star main event already so no worries on that front and he’s coming off a 10th place finish last week at Kansas.
Others to Consider: Kyle Busch (+700) has three Texas wins in his last ten visits to the track. He has been more consistent as of late as well. Darrell Bubba Wallace Jr. (+4500) seems to always be towards the front until he gets caught up in a wreck caused by another driver. If he can stay away from danger he could be a threat.
